http://annajune.blogspot.com/2015/07/summer-summary-part-4.html
Friday, July 31, 2015. Summer Summary: Part 4. Anna June got used to camp at the UAB Rec Center, although she is excited to be going back to school next week. Week 9: Time Travel Week. This was a fun week, as each day brought the kids to a different decade. The children were supposed to dress appropriately for a costume contest each day, but there was such limited participation that they decided not to do it. With trips to the thrift store and Dollar Tree, AJ and I planned her outfits for the week. Neith...

Riding with the June Bug: Anna June's Blog: September 2014
http://annajune.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Anna June brings home good grades. But not all children do. In fact, recently, I have been in conversations with moms or relatives of kids who repeated Pre-K, Kindergarten, or First Grade, because they simply were not ready to move up. In one case at a private school, there's an intermediate class between K and 1st for those kids who need a little extra time. In these conversations I realize how ridiculously lucky I am that AJ has such an easy time. I spent some time this wee...

Riding with the June Bug: Anna June's Blog: April 2015
http://annajune.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Anna June says she no longer likes grilled cheese sandwiches. But her father and I still like them. There's a couple of grilled cheese restaurants in town, but we usually don't go to those places, since they're kind of pricey. Ben was reading the newspaper online the other day and saw this recipe for Gruyere Grilled Cheese with Mushrooms and Honey Chive Butter. He wondered how it would taste. So, in the spirit of trying new things and having Meatless Monday, I decided to find out.

A Break from Cake. Thursday, December 22, 2011. How to Make Christmas Cupcakes in a Jar. Last night* I put my cupcake in a jar planning. The good news is that these carrot cake cake cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. Adorably packaged in jars, were very well received as gifts. Seeing others delighted at something I, or in this case. Made always makes a project worthwhile for me. Here are the steps I took to complete this project:. 1) Prepare your jars. 5) Place the cover on your jar and add the wooden ...

Monday, December 22, 2014. What's Cool These Days. Yes, I am scheduling my posts, as my time with Anna June is limited. So this is not necessarily a holiday post even though we're in the thick of it right now. I've been checking out what AJ thinks is cool these days, and, let me tell you, the simplicity will surprise you. First, there's this. We went to visit Ben's office on Black Friday. Next, there's her dolls. One day I woke up from my nap time to see this:. Sunday, December 21, 2014. So I decided to ...

Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Community and Education - What Price Do You Put on That? Anna June attends Avondale Elementary School. In the City of Birmingham. There are lots of reasons we think it's the best in the city, but one of them is the After School Care program. At After School Care, our daughter is a part of a caring community of adults and kids who help make Avondale what it is. After School Care is run by the Department of Community Education. On May 21, al.com posted this article. The only definite...

Riding with the June Bug: Anna June's Blog: February 2015
http://annajune.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Box Tops for Education. Anna June has a great school. The teachers and principal at Avondale work constantly for the students. Sometimes, the school has to raise money for "extras" not provided by the district. Sometimes, the extras are not enough, and that's where the PTA steps in. One ongoing fundraiser for our PTA is through Box Tops for Education. We keep a baggie on our fridge to collect them. This year, the class that sends the most Box Tops in wins a popcorn party. ...

Riding with the June Bug: Anna June's Blog: August 2015
http://annajune.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 31, 2015. Anna June loves to read. It's a good thing, because it's required at her school. But it's also fun, so we do it a lot. When she gets finished with her work early in school, she gets to read books off the shelf in her classroom. After she started picking long ones, the teacher allowed her to bring them home (one at a time) to finish. She has been reading in the classroom, at after school care, at home, and just about everywhere. Miss Child Has Gone Wild. Mrs Lane is a Pain. Poor A...
