Everyday Urban Gardener: July 2015
http://www.everydayurbangardener.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Replacing the drudgery of mowing with the satisfaction of growing food. Friday, July 24, 2015. New flowers seem to be blooming all over the yard and garden. Above are some cosmos. I planted a few, and at least three plants are very healthy and blooming. The milkweed is just beginning to bloom. This Monarch was nice enough to pose for a photo. I’m letting some of the Arugula go to seed, so I have some seeds for later. They are blooming as well. Friday, July 17, 2015. Insects in the Garden. Of course my ho...

http://www.everydayurbangardener.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Replacing the drudgery of mowing with the satisfaction of growing food. Friday, May 22, 2015. Plants plants and more plants! I have been spending a lot of time this year trying to make my yard look nicer and to convert grass and weeds into something useful, tasty. Beautiful, or all three. The raised beds in the backyard and full of life and starting to supply a small amount of food in the form of collards, cilantro, and garlic chives. How is your garden. Monday, May 11, 2015. Planting an American Hazelnut.
Everyday Urban Gardener: February 2015
http://www.everydayurbangardener.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Replacing the drudgery of mowing with the satisfaction of growing food. Friday, February 27, 2015. A few days ago, I posted about starting some more microgreens. I started arugula, sunflowers, and wheat (order in pic). You can see the seeds are just starting to sprout. Each day I check on them. If they are getting dry, I give them some water with my sprayer/mister; just enough to keep them moist, but not soaked. Monday, February 23, 2015. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Replacing the drudgery of mowing with the satisfaction of growing food. Friday, June 5, 2015. Garden Update–June 5, 2015. Has been growing and growing with a lot of success. The above was taken today, and the below was taken just two weeks ago. Amazing the growth in such a short amount of time. You can see the sunchokes in the background really taking off. The cabbage and collards have been proving nice salads and now the cabbage is producing small heads. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
Everyday Urban Gardener: Planting a Jostaberry
http://www.everydayurbangardener.com/2015/05/planting-jostaberry.html
Replacing the drudgery of mowing with the satisfaction of growing food. Thursday, May 7, 2015. I’ve been wanting a Jostaberry aka Ribes x culverwelii since I heard about them in my permaculture class. I am a huge fan of edible perennials! When I saw it this spring at the local plant store, I couldn’t really resist. Jostaberry is a hardy plant good in USDA zones 3-8 and down to –40F! I pushed down with my boot around the edges to make sure it was level and the air gaps were taken up.

Everyday Tastiness: Baked Tofu
http://www.everydaytastiness.com/2012/02/baked-tofu.html
We love tofu. We like it fried, sautéed, fresh, mashed, scrambled, blended, and of course baked. This latest creation filled the house with an amazing smell with hints of caramel, and it had me licking the bowl afterwards. Delicious flavor “crystals”! After I made the tofu the first night, my wife demanded I make it again. 8220;But make more! Make the whole carton! 8221; she said. What are you waiting for? Get in the kitchen and try it. The tofu just before it goes into the oven (above). In a large bowl,...
Everyday Tastiness: Tree House Restaurant–Saint Louis, MO
http://www.everydaytastiness.com/2015/08/tree-house-restaurantsaint-louis-mo.html
Tree House Restaurant–Saint Louis, MO. Tree House is an all vegetarian restaurant on Grand Blvd in Saint Louis. They are just down the street from Lulu’s and several other good spots. I found this one on happycow. And was excited to try their brunch menu. I wanted some Chai, but they didn’t seem to have any. They did have dozens of coffee flavors and some adult beverages. My server was new, and he did a fantastic job. I enjoyed my visit to Tree House and would definitely get the baked goods again. Chai-l...
Everyday Tastiness: Mother Fools, Green Owl, and Pig Minds!
http://www.everydaytastiness.com/2015/07/mother-fools-green-owl-and-pig-minds.html
Mother Fools, Green Owl, and Pig Minds! Last weekend we took a small road trip to Madison to attend Mad City Vegan Fest. With the goal of eating as much tasty. Vegan food as possible. We managed to squeeze quite a bit in before and after. I also had the pleasure of showing a few of my favorites to some friends who came down with us. First up was Mother Fools. Of course I had to get one! I ordered the special: loaded tostadas. The three tostadas were loaded with a well spiced TVP, shredded lettuce, pi...
Everyday Tastiness: Minneapolis Vegan Ice Cream Crawl
http://www.everydaytastiness.com/2015/07/minneapolis-vegan-ice-cream-crawl.html
Minneapolis Vegan Ice Cream Crawl. A group of us were talking at dinner a few weeks ago about how we should do a vegan ice cream crawl in Minneapolis. Sample all the vegan ice cream places in Minneapolis in one day? Could we do it? And I really liked this idea, and this is the result. We focused on places that had a retail location and actually made vegan ice cream. We excluded restaurants, sorbets, and frozen yogurts. Those might end in a future post instead. Ok, what is this izzy scoop stuff? They have...

Everyday Tastiness: Trumpet Blossom–Iowa City, IA
http://www.everydaytastiness.com/2015/08/trumpet-blossomiowa-city-ia.html
Trumpet Blossom–Iowa City, IA. While discussing my current road trip with a friend, he mentioned a 100% vegan place in Iowa of all places. I had to check it out. This morning, I left MN around sunrise and made it the 250 miles for Trumpet Blossom’s opening at 11am. It was worth it. To get me started. It smelled delicious even if it was a bit weaker than I would normally make. It was still good. They have a great space which includes a patio, full bar, and a stage for live music. I am going to try to ...
Everyday Tastiness: Lulu’s Local Eatery–Saint Louis, MO
http://www.everydaytastiness.com/2015/08/lulus-local-eaterysaint-louis-mo.html
Lulu’s Local Eatery–Saint Louis, MO. Lulu’s Local Eatery came highly recommended by two friends with experience in the Saint Louis area. Reviews on happycow. Were also very positive. I made it my first food stop in the area. I was torn which entrée to get, so I ordered two. No regrets. The first entrée that caught my eye was the sweet potato black bean burger with chipotle sauce on a pretzel bun. I am such a sucker for a pretzel bun. If you are in the area or just passing through, make a point to find th...
Everyday Tastiness: Applesauce Oatmeal Muffins
http://www.everydaytastiness.com/2015/07/applesauce-oatmeal-muffins.html
This recipe has been in the making for many months. I wanted to create a muffin that actually tastes good without using sugar or oil. The lack of refined sugar or oil makes this a healthy treat. The whole wheat flour and oatmeal will help keep you full longer. I use them for snacks on the go or a quick breakfast. Give it a try and let me know what you think. 3/4 cup rice milk. 3 tablespoons cooked brown rice 2/3 cup water. 1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar. 1 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce. Mad City Vegan...
Everyday Tastiness: Tofu Scramble
http://www.everydaytastiness.com/2012/04/tofu-scramble.html
I’ve been making a variation of this Tofu Scramble for some time now. I swore I had posted this before, but when I went to show someone the recipe I couldn’t find it. You can add or change this recipe as you see fit. It is very flexible and a great starting point for experimentation. Add some peppers or some fresh onion/garlic. Maybe you like mushrooms. There are dozens of versions on other sites. Go crazy. Experiment. It is all good! 1 brick of extra firm tofu, squeezed. 1 tablespoon fat free soymilk.

Every day ups and downs, a diabetes blog
Every day ups and downs, a diabetes blog. Because no two days with type 1 diabetes are the same. Except when they are. Posted by Mike K. On Thursday, 22 March 2018. Replacing the drudgery of mowing with the satisfaction of growing food. Sunday, December 6, 2015. My First Lemon from Lemon Tree in Minnesota. I’ve had my lemon tree for a two years now, and it finally produced two small lemons. They should be larger, but I’ve been neglecting repotting the tree. It’s growth has suffered as a result. I plan on moving it to a much larger pot with lots of fresh compost to help it grow larger. It has bloomed before. Wednesday, September 23, 2015. This past weekend I planted ...

Everyday life for a new immigrant finding her way in Uruguay. Making friends in Uruguay has been a bit different (difficult?
