Hanabi: a clever little game – Board Musings
https://boardmusings.wordpress.com/2016/07/22/hanabi-a-clever-little-game
Melanie's musings on Board and Card Games. Hanabi: a clever little game. July 22, 2016. July 22, 2016. Put on a firework display with your friends. Hanabi is a different sort of cooperative game. Although you are working together to put on a firework display, the information you are allowed to share on a turn is limited. Holding the cards without looking at them is quite tricky to remember to do. Hint counters and lightning outbreaks. There are five colours in the game. Included in the box are even ways ...
Patchwork – Board Musings
https://boardmusings.wordpress.com/2016/06/24/patchwork
Melanie's musings on Board and Card Games. June 24, 2016. June 23, 2016. Patchwork, an unusual theme for a boardgame (and no I don’t speak Czech, but the game is language independent so it doesn’t matter). Boardgames come with many different themes from agriculture to space travel, novel writing to saving the world. There is a board game with a theme to suit any taste. As someone who enjoys many different crafts I was drawn to Patchwork. A completed quilt at the end of the game. Click to email (Opens in ...
About Me – Board Musings
https://boardmusings.wordpress.com/about
Melanie's musings on Board and Card Games. Having got into playing boardgames regularly, since starting to date my now husband 2 years ago, I’ve decided a blog might be a fun way to record my thoughts, share my Kickstarter highs and lows and generally comment on the games we play. Usually I play 2-player with my husband, when we visit his parents we get some 4-player light-medium games in, and if his sister and brother-in-law are around at the same time we will occasionally get to play 6-player games.
Sushi Go: a tasty filler – Board Musings
https://boardmusings.wordpress.com/2016/07/08/sushi-go-a-tasty-filler
Melanie's musings on Board and Card Games. Sushi Go: a tasty filler. July 8, 2016. July 8, 2016. Sushi Go – simple but delicious. I was drawn to Sushi Go. Tasty nigiri can be improved by the addition of wasabi. Tempura and sashimi don’t like to be on their own. The more dumplings you have, the better. It’s having the most that matters when it comes to maki rolls. Chopsticks and puddings complete the card types. What are you leaving your fellow players to choose from? Pandemic: In The Lab – Board Musings
https://boardmusings.wordpress.com/2016/07/15/pandemic-in-the-lab
Melanie's musings on Board and Card Games. Pandemic: In The Lab. July 15, 2016. July 15, 2016. Why did they have to put this as the chemical structure? It is one of our most played games, so I was excited about the In The Lab. Look I fixed it for them, took less than a minute…. Why, why, why? Why did they choose to write chemical nonsense on their board? There are all manner of sensible chemical structures they could have chosen, they could have picked a known compound like caffeine. The new lab board.

Melanie's musings on Board and Card Games. Apotheca: what’s in the box. June 20, 2016. I had been expecting Apotheca to arrive any day and was slightly worried that it would turn up whilst I was away from home. It did and it was deposited in my blue recycling bin. Project Dreamscape: A Sleep Study Game – Board Musings

Melanie's musings on Board and Card Games. Project Dreamscape: A Sleep Study Game. July 1, 2016. July 1, 2016. A while ago I wrote. About my excitement upon receiving Project Dreamscape. The first project I had ever backed on Kickstarter. I was pleased with the quality of the components and the beautiful artwork. So after playing it more than half a dozen times what do I think now? The first game I backed on Kickstarter – how it all started. The 11 different dream types included. Choosing which card to b...
Memoir ’44: playing with history – Board Musings

Melanie's musings on Board and Card Games. Memoir ’44: playing with history. August 12, 2016. August 12, 2016. Memoir ’44 commemorating the D-Day landings. Was one of the first modern board games we bought. We came across it as we enjoy Ticket to Ride. And were looking at other titles published by Days of Wonder. Memoir ’44 was released to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings. In the game the Allies are facing the Axis in recreations of battles drawn from history. One slight issue I have ...
Thunderbirds vs Pandemic: do I need both? – Board Musings
https://boardmusings.wordpress.com/2016/08/26/thunderbirds-vs-pandemic-do-i-need-both
Melanie's musings on Board and Card Games. Thunderbirds vs Pandemic: do I need both? August 26, 2016. August 26, 2016. This is an edited version of a comparative review I wrote for the voice of experience competition. My husband and I enjoy co-operative games, they are our go to option when we aren’t sure what we want to play. We have built up a reasonable number of co-operative games, but by far our two favourites are Thunderbirds. There are some obvious similarities between Thunderbirds and Pandemic:.

Trying to capture the world…my way. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. August 13, 2015. August 11, 2015. My sister and I went to a wedding recently and when we went for a walk I saw these pretty flowers that I just had to photograph. Little did I know that I was also being snapped. August 9, 2015. I saw this beautiful sun beam yesterday afternoon. I caught it from a blacked out window (in a moving car) which helped show the sun rays filtered through the fluffy clouds. August 6, 2015.
