Saturday, 17 January 2015. Stephenson's Depot, Virginia, June 15th 1863. Another in our series of Regimental Fire and Fury 15mm ACW games, this scenario was taken from the late John Hill's "To The Sound of the Guns" so just our little way of honouring the man who wrote Johnny Reb rules amongst other things wargamy. General Edward Johnson's Confederate Division approach the railway bridge before dawn. Accompanied by two batteries of artillery. Under the command of Colonel Andrews. Following this, one gun ...

Sunday, 31 May 2015. Partizan, Newark 31st May 2015. Today, we made our annual pilgrimage to Partizan, which is usually a nice sunny day but this year cloudy and raining. It didn't stop the wargaming fraternity though as Kelham Hall seemed busier than I've ever seen it. I thought Mark Freeth from Wargames Holiday Centre must be here as his helicopter was parked on the lawn! The gloomy interior of Kelham Hall. Was brightened up by the beaming visages of Mike and Steve from Essex Warriors! A thoroughly ent...

Tuesday, 20 May 2014. German Counter Attack 1918. A Through the Mud and the Blood game. Advanced sentries with a Lewis gun see some movement. Its a German attack! More troops are spotted. The Lewis gunners pick off a couple. But they in turn are hit. Other British troops in a wood are still concealed. As, further back, is another section plus a field gun. The section in the woods opens fire revealing their position. As the Germans storm across the open fields. The foremost German unit attacks the woods.

Saturday, 4 January 2014. Friday was a bit of a Wild West fun day when Steve Clarke had laid out the table with a 15mm town complete with railroad and train. The scenario was that the town's richest man had decided to ship some of his gold out by train and the sheriff's men had been paid to guard and escort it down to the railyard. Here's Mr Rich outside his office waiting for the Deputies and the waggon. Rules for the game? Legends of the Old West. Here's the Sheriff and his men. He was now up against ...

Wednesday, 22 July 2015. Its all about the ford! Today, Steve Clarke and I went back to the Charles Grant rules "The War Game" for some nostalgic fun. I had the Blue army which closely resembled a Prussian force whilst Steve had the Red with suspiciously familiar British uniforms. The opposing generals met at the ford, the border between the two countries which Red is threatening, where discourse solved nothing at all, so war it was! Red begins an all out advance, with colours flying and drums beating.

Wednesday, 17 June 2015. An afternoon with Ron Ringrose. Well, thanks to my eldest daughter, I got an invite to the home of the famous war gamer and collector (it turns out Louise works with his daughter-in-law! He only lives about 40 minutes away from me, so no hardship at all. Here's Ron with a small part of his collection. The view from the doorway of his war-games room. And at the entrance. Here's the view from the back of the house. And this is the garage where Ron makes his scenery and buildings.

Thursday, 5 February 2015. Sands of the Sudan. War against the Mahdi in the Desert. A game using Carlo Pagano's Peter Gilder inspired rules. The Imperial troops are handled by one player whilst the Dervish actions and reactions are card driven and handled by the umpire/other player. There are also random event cards affecting any party involved - so plenty of battlefield friction and chances of things going awry. The Mahdhist drums are beating right from the outset. British lancers head the column. The E...

Sunday, 15 June 2014. Last week, my wife and I were treated to a visit to The Shard in London by our daughters, when suddenly it occurred to me, I had never visited HMS Belfast which was right below us! The views around London are quite spectacular - these are from the restaurant on the 32nd floor. Anyway, The Shard visit over, I next persuaded Her Ladyship that a visit was indeed most timely! Before she could object, we were over the gangway. And exploring the ship! Monday, 2 June 2014. Too Fat Lardies ...
