The 21st Workshop of the IAVS Working Group for the European Vegetation Survey took place in Vienna from Thursday 24 May to Sunday 27 May 2012, with a post-Workshop Excursion on Monday 28 May. Registration, Lectures and Poster Sessions took place in the Main Building of the University of Vienna (see Venue). The workshop focused on the following three topics:. Vegetation databases and large-scale classification.

Vienna (Austria), 24–27 May 2012. There were three alternative routes. Route 1: Biosphere Reserve Vienna Woods (Leopoldsberg and Kalksburg). Thermophilous oak forests, lime and beech forests, dry and semidry grasslands, the northern most Black Pine forest of Austria. Route 2: Danube National Park and alluvial landscape along the river March. Alluvial forests, aquatic vegetation, alluvial meadows, sand dunes. Full-day trip to the calcareous part of the Biosphere Reserve Vienna Woods.
