300 Years of Business. A slight check occurred in 1957, when the lease of the Central Station showroom terminated, without possibility of renewal. By a curious turn of Fate, some property became available at 19 North Street, only a stone's throw from the site that first saw the Golden Hammer, and in 1958 extensive modern showrooms were opened on the newly-acquired premises.

SORELY stricken as she was by her great loss, Jane Kingdon was yet imbued with the dauntless spirit of the servants of the Golden Hammer. A week after her husband's death, she advertised in the Flying Post to this effect:. This alliance lasted only two years; in 1804 Samuel II entered the family business with his mother and brother, and the firm was renamed " Kingdon & Sons. End of an Era. Alec Hugo Holladay died on the 1st November 2003; his elder brother Henry Edgar Eland Holladay died on the 6th May 2007, aged 94. The original Golden Hammer that used to hang outside the Foundry in Tan Lane is loaned to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and it is hoped it will again be on show to the public, together with other artefacts from Garton & Kings past, when the museum re-opens after its extensive refurbishment.".
