A Chicago girl's adventures in the rest of the world
Now you know | exile from guyville

A Chicago girl's adventures in the rest of the world. Words that escape me. March 31, 2013. Eleven years ago, Easter Sunday fell on a March 31. I remember that date distinctly, because that was the night I came closer to dying than, even now, I want to admit to myself. The brutal attack I survived that night forever cleaved my life into Before and After. I thought this would be the year that I could finally write about it, but I was wrong. A Chicago girl's adventures in the rest of the world. Newer posts →. June 13, 2011. Back in January, I declared 2011 to be my Year of No. No to other people’s bullshit agendas. No to the unrealistic expectations of others, and especially to the unrealistic expectations I have for myself. No to all the absurd standards and norms to which our fucked-up society insists that women conform. No to anyone who insists on telling me what to do, how to think, or what to feel. One of my feminist heroes, just handed...

A Chicago girl's adventures in the rest of the world. Words that escape me →. A month of haiku: Week 1. April 8, 2012. La dama presiding over a float in the New Orleans St. Patrick's Day Parade, March 2011. Spurred by the boundless creativity of my friend Elle Crash. I’ll be writing one haiku a day during April, which is National Poetry Month. Since I love a theme, my haiku will be inspired by places I have lived or visited. Here’s Week 1:. April 1 – Milwaukee. Two rounds with this town. You are commenti...

Will Write When Possible: Yeah, That Tri Sucked It
http://willwritewhenpossible.blogspot.com/2012/09/yeah-that-tri-sucked-it.html
Will Write When Possible. Evolving writer, hungry foodie and committed triathlete. We'll see what's next on my plate. Sunday, September 30, 2012. Yeah, That Tri Sucked It. I promised to let you know how I did on my last tri, and here it is, almost October. Good thing you're not on the edge of your seat. For the record: my time was only a couple minutes slower than my average. Mentally, I felt like it was 20 min. and falling. The bike was good - not amazing, but solid. I can live with that.

Will Write When Possible. Evolving writer, hungry foodie and committed triathlete. We'll see what's next on my plate. Thursday, December 26, 2013. I’ve always credited this ability to my mom, who I watched add in an extra dash of this or that and make recipes just right. I spent hours watching her cook as I grew up. But it’s been a year since my dad died, and in hindsight, I’ve realized I actually owe my food spontaneity to him. You don’t do that! 8221; - but I never complained. He used to balk at my...

The past few tri seasons just have not been ideal:. 2010: Recovering from pneumonia is not a good way to enter a training season. But, I still managed to finish Chicago Triathlon. 2011: Thanks to the wedding and my dad's health, there wasn't a lot of time to train. Is two weeks away. I'll be there, but I ...

Lust for Life…. With a Little Luck…. Big Foot and Godzilla →. And a Little More Luck…. January 4, 2011. Who couldn’t use just a little bit more luck this year? In my previous post, the Spicy Black Eyed Pea Tomato Bisque recipe was a subtle one, in terms of black-eyed pea flavor. Good for the folks who aren’t crazy about the rather earthy taste of these fabulous little gems (high in protein, no fat and iron to boot). 1/4 onion finely diced. 1 medium tomato seeded and diced. 1/4 bunch parsley chopped fine.

Exile From Hysteria | When a hysterectomy is not the ending, but a beginning.
When a hysterectomy is not the ending, but a beginning. May 10, 2013. Most days now, I don’t even think about my hysterectomy. It’s as if I’ve almost forgotten this huge portion of my emotional map. The reminders come as I notice my pants are too snug (residual inflammation sweetly nicknamed “swelly belly”) or I reflexively pull back from a sudden muscle twinge deep within. Life has moved on, carrying me in tow. With my primary care physician, along with my breast exams. If I really wanted to see her...
