Thoughts on the occasion of leaving New York City (and America in general) for life in Europe (and Cologne in particular). Sunday, October 30, 2005. Posted by Berlinbound at 1:16 PM. Thursday, October 27, 2005. It’s 3 in the morning and I have been awake in my bed making lists of people I want to see today in New York, people I want to say good-bye to in person. I’m cleaning the apartment out today. Ramon, the super of the building on the corner, who was probably as excited as anyone when he saw us walki...

Sunday, November 27, 2005. Tomorrow morning I begin an intensive four-week German language course in Cologne and on Thursday we move into a temporary rental in the Belgian Quarter, a short walk from the school, and although a bit closer to the center of the city than I would prefer, it is a lovely apartment and just large enough for the three of us. It will do just fine for now. Posted by Berlinbound at 7:50 AM. Links to this post. Cologne, NRW, Germany. View my complete profile. David Lebovitz Food Blog.

Saturday, December 24, 2005. December 24, 2005. I passed my Level One German test. It’s not a huge accomplishment in the scheme of things but I am relieved and feel a smidgen of pride that I actually got through it and did pretty well aging fart that I am. All of my colleagues were under 21 I have shoes that old well nearly! I still have (and wear) an old cashmere sweater I bought in 1981. Posted by Berlinbound at 7:44 AM. Links to this post. Thursday, December 15, 2005. December 15, 2005. Last night was the Weinachtsfeir at Carl Duisberg Center, the language school I’m attending in Koln. All the classes put on some sort of show, I played and sang Amazing Grace and others danced or sang. It was great fun. Maybe I’ve just lucked out but German school at least this one is terrific. More anon I hear rumblings. Posted by Berlinbound at 6:34 AM. Links to this post. Cologne, NRW, Germany. View my complete profile. David Lebovitz Food Blog.
