Lsquo; If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you’ll have to settle for the ordinary’. My name’s Laura, I’m 24 years old and I’m a Social Media Exec from South London. I’m weird, and commute (read: trek) to Brighton each day - mainly because I love my job. I work for a gap year travel company by day, and dream of all that travelly soppy shit, including all the adventures that. By night. (Hardcore). Lsquo;buys extra time off work each year to go away and stay in luxury hotels’. Where Can You Find Me?

I’m patting myself on the back like an enthusiastic three year old. Go me). A bit of history. A few years ago, on a completely normal (and let’s face it, probably grey) day in the UK, I read about the Anantara Golden Triangle. In my favourite travel magazine. I practically wanted to die there and then, it ticked all. Mid last year I started to plan my solo round the world trip. And within all of five seconds I knew. I stayed in Le Meridien Chiang Rai and at 10am, was picked up by the hotel’s driver...

See more →. Atlantis, The Palm- Hotel Review. As we soared through the southern tip of the palm, weaving our way through the traffic on a piping hot midsummer’s evening, our eyes were drawn to the golden glow of the hotel’s infamous arches directly in front of us. Seconds later we were whisked into the grand, populated lobby- which was swarming with other thriving, happy tourists and there and then we knew we were on to a. Which included an Ocean Deluxe Room and half board, with flights for under £.

Above Blue Suites, Santorini. You’d usually catch me setting up shop in a glamorous, glitzy hotel - proper Hollywood style. You know the sort; you get ushered through reception, shown the view (’the sea’s WELL blue! Rsquo;) and before you know it you’ve been packed off to your room like a pig in a pen before you can say: ‘IVECHECKEDINONFACEBOOKMUM’. Standard. A cute little place perching on the top of the hill in Imerovigli. SOLD. Felicity room: it’s properly cute. Check out the cave like walls! The lago...

13 things solo travellers learn when their away from ‘life’. I’ve been well quiet since I’ve been back (and to be honest, pretty much the whole time I was away too. Oops) - mainly because I was too busy 1) floating about in the sea 2) jumping off cliffs into ravines (with a rope, obvs) or 3) stuffing exotic (read: probably burger shaped) food in my chops to write stuff down. I’m so sorry. And I survived for SEVEN WEEKS PEOPLE, SEVEN WEEKS with barely a sniff of illness. Well lucky. I’d always feel ...

The Adventures of an Armchair Explorer: A visit to Shaka Zulu!
http://www.armchair-explorer.co.uk/2014/10/a-visit-to-shaka-zulu.html
Monday, 27 October 2014. A visit to Shaka Zulu! My housemate, Danielle, and I are a bit obsessed with Africa, and she'd told me several times previously about Shaka Zulu and how amazing it was. It's very easy to get to; in Brighton we live around an hour from London, and it's less than a 5 minute walk from Camden Town tube station. Head towards Camden Lock, and it's just there on the left. From the outside, it looks like it's going to be a very cool, but tiny restaurant, but appearances can be deceiving!

Wednesday, 17 September 2014. My time as an ICS Volunteer. I spent some time as an ICS volunteer. Spending three months in Mali in 2011. Back then, it was a very new scheme (I was part of the second cohort of volunteers), but it's now developed and has achieved some incredibly positive things worldwide. Who are based in York, where I went to University. I heard of the scheme in a 'Charity and Third Sector' career talk in my third year, and knew straight away that I had to apply. The scheme is funded by D...
The Adventures of an Armchair Explorer: Thailand - Surin and Koh Phangan
http://www.armchair-explorer.co.uk/2015/06/thailand-surin-and-koh-phangan.html
Thursday, 18 June 2015. Thailand - Surin and Koh Phangan. During my week in Thailand later on this year, I was lucky to travel to incredibly varied places in a relatively short period of time. You can read about my experiences in Sangkhlaburi and Bangkok here, but now it's time to move on to Surin and Koh Phangan; two very different areas of the country! The part of town our volunteers stay in is lovely - it has lots of cute bars and restaurants, and even has a coffee shop built into a camper van! I trav...
The Adventures of an Armchair Explorer: July 2015
http://www.armchair-explorer.co.uk/2015_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 16 July 2015. After spending a week in Thailand with our partners over there, it was time for my holiday! I was a little apprehensive about spending a week alone in Cambodia, but excited at the same time. Because I had such a short amount of time to spare, I planned every day as much as possible before I left. On my return to Bangkok, I explored the Grand Palace before heading to Dong Muang airport for my Air Asia flight to Phnom Penh at 3.20pm. As I mentioned in my p revious post. Unfortunatel...
The Adventures of an Armchair Explorer: A holiday at home
http://www.armchair-explorer.co.uk/2014/11/a-holiday-at-home.html
Wednesday, 12 November 2014. A holiday at home. I love this little part of the world; when I'm in Brighton, the one thing I miss the most is the hills. I do like the coast, but the sea and I don't really get on (I get sea-sick, and the taste of the salt makes me sick). I've lived in the middle of the Pennines all my life, and find it very strange to not be surrounded by the countryside. So where is home? Whatever you call it, this part of the world is stunning, and will always be home. There are hund...

The Adventures of an Armchair Explorer: Everest: "Because it's there." - George Mallory
http://www.armchair-explorer.co.uk/2012/05/everest-because-its-there-george.html
Wednesday, 2 May 2012. Everest: "Because it's there." - George Mallory. From the Guardian website. Nevertheless, the expedition strove on, determined to find a route to tackle the unclimbed peak. This was a reconnaissance, not a full-scale climb, and after getting as far as they could – further than anyone had gone before – Mallory and the team returned home. To this day, nobody knows whether they reached the summit of Mount Everest, and it is one of the greatest mysteries in mountaineering history.

My Hotel of 2015 - Coworth Park. For the last few months, Coworth Park has been my little secret. My favourite corner. My haven. But when you become prone to writing every single travelly thought down on the internet, it makes concealing your usual verbal diarrhoea almost impossible. And as I can’t contain myself, or my feelings for my beloved Coworth any longer, I decided to declare it as my hotel of 2015. And probably 2016, 2017, 2018. You get my drift. It was bloody EXCELLENT. 1) (The Background bit):.
