NERC BORTAS Aircraft Campaign: May 2011
http://nerc-bortas.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
NERC BORTAS Aircraft Campaign. Emissions from forest fires in North America are transported across the Atlantic Ocean and they may affect the air quality in the UK and other parts of Europe. For this reason understanding how the chemicals emitted change as they are transported away from source regions is important for UK scientists. The NERC funded BORTAS project aims to find out more about how the chemicals emitted from biomass burning interact and change as they disperse. Tuesday, 31 May 2011. Good que...

Thursday, 15 January 2015. Baseline Monitoring in Lancashire. BGS is about to begin an enhanced baseline monitoring programme across the UK at locations with a potential for shale gas and oil. This will take place at sites where an operator's licence is held and planning permission has been approved for testing shale gas extraction. BGS plans to start field work in the north-west where the Natural Environment Research Council. NERC) has approved the Lancashire Monitoring Programme. As Public Good research.

Aerosol-Cloud Coupling And Climate Interactions in the Arctic. Skip to primary content. Aerosol-Cloud Coupling and Climate Interaction in the Arctic (ACCACIA). Is a project to study the processes that control the properties of low-level clouds (stratus and stratocumulus) in the Arctic – the sources of aerosol particles, their interactions with cloud microphysical properties, the radiative properties of the clouds, and the dynamic coupling with the lower atmosphere. BAe146, and the BAS MASIN Twin Otter.

We got a couple of science flights into our first week in Longyearbyen, and then had to spend the weekend on the ground as a low pressure system moved northwards over Svalbard, accompanied by a fair bit of rain fall. Not the conditions of nice undisturbed Arctic stratocumulus or clear skies that we really want. July 23, 2013.
