FacingCancer: Back to Work
http://facingcancer.blogspot.com/2009/08/back-to-work.html
My personal blog about my experiences and those of my family and loved ones as I face the challenges of terminal lung cancer. Thursday, August 20, 2009. I feel okay today. Now, there’s a statement I honestly feared I’d never make again. But I do. Feel good, or at least pretty good. My wife drove me to the VA for my regularly scheduled chemotherapy session. It didn’t work out. As soon as a nurse took my vital signs, I was hurried to the ER. My blood pressure was 70/42. That’s low. Over the last few weeks ...
FacingCancer: March 2009
http://facingcancer.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
My personal blog about my experiences and those of my family and loved ones as I face the challenges of terminal lung cancer. Monday, March 16, 2009. I returned not long ago from another trip to see my mother up in Clearwater. This one – the second in a couple of weeks – was for three full days. While I was at my mom's house, I was joined by my older brother, Kevin, but he only stayed for one day and night. I haven't had a lot of positive days recently. I needed an uplift. When my mother and I hugged on ...
FacingCancer: April 2009
http://facingcancer.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
My personal blog about my experiences and those of my family and loved ones as I face the challenges of terminal lung cancer. Wednesday, April 29, 2009. I go to a sobriety fellowship meeting almost every morning. I’ve been sober for a long time so I don’t really have to go. I go because it’s habit and I enjoy myself, mostly. At each meeting, there are prayers. I do believe enough to pray, my own way. Listen. I like to think I’m an intelligent fellow. I’ve been told I have a high IQ...There’s one...
FacingCancer: July 2009
http://facingcancer.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
My personal blog about my experiences and those of my family and loved ones as I face the challenges of terminal lung cancer. Sunday, July 12, 2009. My mother is in rehab now. She had surgery about a week ago and is already up, walking (with help), and dealing with her granddaughter’s death about as well as can be expected. So much for that. This may come as a surprise to most who know me, but I’m not crazy, or not really crazy. I don’t want to take my own life or harm anybody else, I don...She and I hav...
FacingCancer: My Oldest Son
http://facingcancer.blogspot.com/2009/09/roughly-28-years-ago-on-summer-morning.html
My personal blog about my experiences and those of my family and loved ones as I face the challenges of terminal lung cancer. Thursday, September 10, 2009. I kissed the two kids goodbye and almost ran a mile or so from our house to a bar on a big highway passing through New Port Richey, a joint only a half-mile or so from the county sheriff’s office. I didn’t have a great deal of money but I did have enough to get drunk and that’s exactly what I wanted. Thanks for sharing that very special moment, Kieran.

My personal blog about my experiences and those of my family and loved ones as I face the challenges of terminal lung cancer. Monday, November 16, 2009. I’m not doing well. Believe me, that’s a sentence I hoped never to write. However, I’ve no choice, unless I wish to kick the truth aside. Now, though, I need to stop writing. I’m too tired. Thursday, October 22, 2009. Facing Cancer Alone
According to the US Census, single-person households rose from 25 percent in 2000 to 27 percent in 2010. We believe this percentage reflects the life situations of all adult cancer survivors. Because there are documented disparities regarding survival between single and partnered adults who are diagnosed with cancer, it is important to understand the differences between single and married/partnered adults and those adults who have rich and supportive relationships outside of their household.
