Bradleen's Kitchen: February 2013
http://www.bradleenskitchen.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 22, 2013. Snow Day, Sick Day. Eli's been longing for a good snowstorm. We've had a few light snows, but nothing a kid can really do something with. Like make a snowman, or even a respectable snowball. Wednesday night and into yesterday, we finally got a not totally lame snowstorm. Not exactly the big dump we've been hoping for, but enough to get out and play in for a bit. Eli helped Brad shovel the walk. It was a great morning for him. Followed by a not so great afternoon. Well, our fear...

Bradleen's Kitchen: One Year Ago Today

Saturday, June 8, 2013. One Year Ago Today. The Ethiopian Federal Court made us a family. When I look back at pictures from our court trip, our Embassy trip, our first weeks and months home. . . it's hard to recognize the people in the photos. They look like us, sort of. But we are all so very different now. Our boy who barely smiled? Well, he smiles now. A lot. And he laughs. All the time. We have all been changed in so many wonderful ways. One thing that hasn't changed? He still loves to climb trees.

Saturday, March 23, 2013. Evolution of a Runner. I'm still the kind of runner who slavishly heads out in ridiculously cold, snowy, windy conditions for a 14 mile run (6 at marathon pace! Because that's what it says on my training schedule. But I'm happy to say that I'm also now the kind of runner who will pause mid-run to enjoy the beauty of a bald eagle soaring over the lake with a fellow parkgoer. Wow, what a sight. Well, that and the big, fat post-run cinnamon roll and latte (nonfat of course, haha!

Bradleen's Kitchen: The Long and Winding Road

Saturday, April 11, 2015. The Long and Winding Road. Hello, friends, it's been a long time. By now most of you have seen Eli's fantastic announcement:. Yes, he's getting a brother. From Uganda. But I thought you were waiting for a girl. . . . We were. And then we weren't any longer. And I thought you were adopting from Ethiopia. . . . That was also true. We were trying to adopt from Ethiopia, until we switched our focus to Uganda. Had I wanted them? We returned home and I called a local agency that facil...

Bradleen's Kitchen: Yep . . . It's a girl!
http://www.bradleenskitchen.com/2013/05/yep-its-girl.html
Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Yep It's a girl! Or will be, anyway. Earlier this year, Brad and I began the process again to adopt a sibling for Eli; a sister, specifically. And about a week and a half ago, with all our approvals in place and other paperwork complete, we went back on our agency's wait list. Sometimes the pain and loss of adoption hits in some unexpected ways. As you saw in our post yesterday. The bunk beds are in and Eli is eager to share his room with his sister. He has never gotten used t...

Bradleen's Kitchen: January 2013

Saturday, January 26, 2013. So, where were we? Greetings, friends and long-ignored blog. Much has happened since we all got together at the end of last year. After recovering from some setbacks brought on by too much holiday excitement and chaos, Eli is doing great. Settling back into our routine brought the return our sweet boy but, man, that was a rough week. Then birthday dinner at, you guessed it, GB's Fish and Chips. Then back home for birthday cake and gifts from us. We brought in lunch from GB's, ...

Bradleen's Kitchen: Boston: The Next 24 Hours
http://www.bradleenskitchen.com/2013/04/boston-next-24-hours.html
Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Boston: The Next 24 Hours. Last Friday I left off writing at the point where I'd found Brad and Eli. People have asked me how long it took to find them after the bombs went off, and the truth is I had no clue. It could've been five minutes, it could've been an hour. Time lost all meaning. To go that way, and didn't try and stop me. I checked the photos on my phone from that morning and knew it was. That was her hat, her bright shirt. An hour or so later I reached Christine's dad ...
