Farm Fancies: I passed, I passed, I passed, I passed!

http://www.farmfancies.blogspot.com/2015/06/i-passed-i-passed-i-passed-i-passed.html

One day I'll have a farm of my own! I passed, I passed, I passed, I passed! As of this afternoon I am now legally able to operate a forklift. I am soooooo looking forward to a whole range of new employment prospects opening up :D! This is the forklift I was trained and tested on. I had to bend it through the cone line in forward and then reverse it bending through them again as part of the training. Robyn Louise xo :D. 26 June 2015 at 23:24. 27 June 2015 at 11:14. 27 June 2015 at 03:01. Oh ye of little f...

Farm Fancies: June 2014

http://www.farmfancies.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

One day I'll have a farm of my own! I've been a bit busy over the last few weeks as I was involved in an online craft swap, had gardens to prepare and plant, did some cutting out of items I need to sew AND found myself a part time cleaning job :D! As there's been a lot of typing going on with other interests and job applications I thought I'd just do a bit of a photo journal this post - with captions. The peas and carrots are progressing. The garlic has popped up and the extra kale is potted. The photos ...

Farm Fancies: May 2015

http://www.farmfancies.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

One day I'll have a farm of my own! So I had a look at the list of “to-dos” on my fridge door and when I opened the vertical blinds I realised that I really wanted to use the closed in veranda, for something besides storage, and I need to do some cooking that I’ve been putting off for weeks. Then there are the weekly/fortnightly/monthly chores to do that are always “there”. I realised that what would make me happy is to make this place. Ed today that I am the one who has always made safe/comfortable plac...

Farm Fancies: April 2015

http://www.farmfancies.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

One day I'll have a farm of my own! That I must be a bit of an oddball around here for my age, after attending a night out with an over 50's singles group, was a bit disconcerting. I mean, I know I’m a little weird but to know so much about social internet and be able to send bulk emails, moderate (I was asked what that is! Life, and have new experiences. Physically and mentally, not stagnate in the same spot in my life journey as some of the group members seemed to be doing. Links to this post. Was post...

Farm Fancies: Everything is falling into place....finally...

http://www.farmfancies.blogspot.com/2015/07/everything-is-falling-into-placefinally.html

One day I'll have a farm of my own! Everything is falling into place.finally. Driving forklifts at the winery would help me gain experience. The staffer agreed. Now I just have to wait for it to be made legal *big cheesey grin*. The driving experience will also be on Line 3, which is the winery section I clean. I felt like doing cartwheels! Hoping some permanent employment, that also has "forklift licence an advantage" in the advertisement, becomes available at the winery soon. 3 July 2015 at 08:27.

Maes-y-Delyn: December 2014

http://www.maes-y-delyn.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Monday, 22 December 2014. This post is not for the faint hearted, and it does contain. Photos and information upon slaughtering and. Butchery of livestock- so if you are sensitive to this I do not advise you continue reading. However I will not apologise for posting it, as we do raise and eat our own produce; livestock and garden, so this is the reality of the lifestyle. Then on the day a well place shot did the job. Keeping the kill and processing onsite. As this minimises stress to the animal prior to ...

Maes-y-Delyn: March 2014

http://www.maes-y-delyn.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 12 March 2014. St David’s Day Celebrations. Dydd gwyl Dewi hapus (Happy St. David’s Day). Well the weekends spit pig was (thankfully) a great success. After postponing it a few weeks ago due to cyclones, poor weather and people being away we decided we would aim for Saturday 1. Of March. As not only was that officially the first day of here but it is St. David’s Day. SO this year in addition to our traditional faggots and welshcakes; faggots are a rissole/meatball made of pigs liver, onions an...

Maes-y-Delyn: August 2014

http://www.maes-y-delyn.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, 28 August 2014. Chick health… well poultry in general. Regardless of the species their needs, particularly in the early stages are very similar. We quite often get questions about how to look after young birds. Whether it is from people buying birds from us, or just general ‘chicken rearing questions’ so I thought as I was setting up the brooder; I’d address a few. And obviously being clean. However as a general we incubate and raise the chicks in a brooder- shelter. Our brooder is a converted ...

Maes-y-Delyn: 'Eatwells'; Heritage tablebirds

http://www.maes-y-delyn.com/2015/08/eatwells-heritage-tablebirds.html

Tuesday, 4 August 2015. Eatwells'; Heritage tablebirds. Eatwells' Heritage Style tablebirds. W ell our new ‘Eatwells’ have arrived; the heritage style meat chickens I struggled to source. There are a few producers hat are developing lines such as these, however they are generally only available to free range farms that meet a set of criteria. Other than not being commercial, our biggest downfall to most of these is our regional location. The syndicate purchase- all collected within a few days. We have ra...

http://www.maes-y-delyn.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 14 July 2015. Still waiting for our pullets to lay. So how long should you wait for a chicken to lay? We had (until Christmas last year) a Wellsummer hen that was still consistently laying 3 eggs a week at 7 years of age; she was an original from suburbia, and was a pet more than anything- but she earned her keep. So Sunday evening I waited until they had gone in to roost and moved them- no they were no too impressed. This morning we had two eggs! Especially as I have just ordered a couple of bo...

Maes-y-Delyn: Raising Poddy Calves

http://www.maes-y-delyn.com/2013/10/raising-poddy-calves.html

Wednesday, 2 October 2013. Now we are by no means an authority or experts upon this subject. This is our experience, though input is welcome. Ruby 4 days old (on arrival). I guess the most frequent question we get about our poddies is ‘what are they for? 8217; or “will you be able to eat them? Bart 4 days old (on arrival). For those who didn’t know). Poddies (apparently) are often dairy varieties, we ours are considered a meat breed. Shelter, warmth (as it was winter ours slept in our shed for the first ...

Maes-y-Delyn: November 2014

http://www.maes-y-delyn.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, 13 November 2014. This little piggy. (not necessarily a happy ending). Being new parents we're regularly reciting nursery rhymes. Only this one didn't quite go to as we'd hoped. as some little piggy's went to market, but ours didn't get to stay at home. Well there’s the common saying about chickens- “Never count your chickens before they hatch” and I would go one step further to say you cant always count them then. Christmas Ham- previous sow. Anyway, having put out for expressions of interest ...

Maes-y-Delyn: August 2015

http://www.maes-y-delyn.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, 6 August 2015. What to expect when incubating eggs (or at least our experience/method). Today is the last day that we turn the eggs in the incubator; you are not supposed to rotate/turn them for the last 2 days. In theory chicken eggs take 3 weeks to incubate. But ours generally start ‘pipping’ from 20 days, so as we generally make the last turn on the morning of the 18. So now we just sit, wait and hope. So incubating you obviously need fertile eggs. This time we purchased some eggs from a...

http://www.maes-y-delyn.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 24 June 2015. The patch is in and planted! Last weekend we cleared our veg patch. Digging out the last of the raised beds, pallet beds and failed pathways we installed a few years ago. The garden was then weeded out and the soil turned over and evened out; by hand as the rotary hoe had a ‘technical issue’ the primer hoses had disintegrated whilst in storage… *Note to self, ensure there is absolutely no petrol left in it before we put it away. Zucchini (Courgette)- seeds only at this stage.

FARM FANCY

For those who fancy farm living. Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Not 20 minutes after I had gone inside for the evening the sky clouded over in anticipation of what the news called sever thunder storms. My place was just on the outskirts of the storm so I didn't get much rain but could see the lightening and hear the thunder in the distance. I was not saved from the 50 to 60 mph winds though. Friday, April 20, 2012. Still Alive (and now fairly well). Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Tuesday, April 20, 2010. The pastu...

For Those Who Fancy Farm Living. Thursday, March 05, 2009. It may look as though I haven't posted anything since last year but that just isn't so. I created another blog for myself titled Almosta. I wanted to separate general farm stuff from the goings on at Almosta. Farm so things wouldn't be so cluttered. This took up much more of my time than I had anticipated. Posted by Kathleen the mama hawk @ Thursday, March 05, 2009. Wednesday, September 10, 2008. I stopped the car and started tracking her down th...
