Standards - Hate 'em. Need 'em. Mon 01 February 2016. What will standards-based robotics and unmanned systems look like in ten years? This blog continues a long conversation about accelerating the emergence of standards-based robotics. In the last ten years, there hasn't been much acceleration. Why not? Bold*If you are involved in the development of robotics and autonomous systems, it is time to consider participating with a standards effort like the SAE AS-4 Unmanned Systems committee.*bold. Messaging and Data Tiers in the UCS SOA. Mon 07 March 2016. Large scale SOA with message-based service interfaces PLUS efficient data distribution. This note proposes a whitepaper to explore the design of two-tier service oriented architectures (TTSOAs) with:. That implements service interfaces and captures the interaction among participants, and. A data distribution tier. Where has this architectural approach been used before? What are relevant architectural patterns or sub-patterns? The OMG DDS platfor...

Businessweek Code Issue - June 2015. Tue 07 July 2015. Bloomberg Businessweek gives reliable insight on business and technology trends. Imagine my surprise finding a Python program on the cover of the July issue. I read the entire issue in one sitting, thinking all along, yes, that's pretty much it. Thanks, Paul Ford. I will be recommending this issue to business associates who are software developers or who need to understand the landscape of today's software development. That is, just about everyone.

JAUS over the OMG Data Distribution Service (DDS). I led the SAE AS-4 Unmanned Systems JAUS task group that produced ARP6227 Messaging over the OMG Data Distribution Service (DDS). The key question for this project. Can a fully functional, conformant JAUS system be designed to run over the OMG DDS? At a minimum, a J...

Migrating Compact JSIDL (CJSIDL) to ANTLR4. Sun 06 March 2016. Recently, work in AS-4 Unmanned Systems JAUS and FACE brought me back to the ANTLR3 parser generator tools that I have used for:. Compact JAUS Service Interface Definition Language (CJSIDL). The Mission Planning and Management System (MPMS) Tactical Scripting Language (TSL). CJSIDL has been helpful for reviewing the hand-crafted Word documents, to make sure that the Word tables and text match the XML JSIDL specifications. The latest ANTLR4 IDE.
