Learning Cambodia & (Re)Learning the United States: Sixty-one

http://fatherseyes86.blogspot.com/2011/03/sixty-one.html

Learning Cambodia and (Re)Learning the United States. Learning in, learning about, learning from. Sunday, March 6, 2011. The one evening, I decided I would braid my hair. It took me that evening and the next (during our hymn sing) to put all 61 braids in my hair. And a friend did a few to save me several minutes. After a week, I took it out to reveal a head full of krimpy hair. But it was so easy so I'm sure I'll do it again. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Cup of Cold Water.

Are total belief or complete abandonment the only available choices, or is it possible to reinterpret ancient beliefs in a way that will make them relevant to the modern world and at the same time not cause one to abandon the tradition? Learning Cambodia & (Re)Learning the United States: October 2009

http://fatherseyes86.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Learning Cambodia and (Re)Learning the United States. Learning in, learning about, learning from. Friday, October 30, 2009. Keys Are Important, Really. Long, long ago (okay, only a few months ago), I wrote a post about how I got locked out of my host family's house. Only I wasn't really locked out, I just thought I was. Well, this time it happened again. I got locked out of the house I should've been able to get in. Only this time, it was under different circumstances. Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Are tota...

http://kristinabeth.blogspot.com/2011/01/pop-up-insomnia.html

Sometimes, when I can't sleep, it's because my mind is racing, anxious, agonising over some specific happening(s). Other times, like last night, it's more calm, less distressed, just. well, as if my thoughts were those annoying little pop ups that crowd my desktop when I choose to visit heavily advertised websites. Why I Love My Job :). I always start the first class with my older elementary schoolers - rising second through fifth graders - by explaining two things: my expectations and my goals. Here's the gist of what I tell them. And, if you don't like reading that much or think you're not very good at it, you're going to be good at reading and like it more by the time we finish this class.". He's actually enjoying reading! Yesterday, I learned about flooding in Jeddah, the hometown of many of our students. Usually, I (semi-)keep up with international news via BBC and NPR. http://kristinabeth.blogspot.com/2010/12/scattered-thoughts.html

It's snowing outside. And by "snowing," I mean that all surfaces appear to be white. It wasn't snowing this morning when I decided to bike to work and school. It is snowing now. And it does appear that the snowing will continue through my class and commute (walking my bike) home. I'm trying to convince myself to appreciate the beauty which is softly falling snow. A few hours from now, I'll have completed the last class of my first semester as a graduate student. About that, I feel . meh? Also starting in...

http://kristinabeth.blogspot.com/2011/01/colours.html

We are in the season of dull colours, of darkness and drear, of late-rising and early-setting suns, of overcast days. The time of blankets and lamps, early morning coffee, and fresh-baked bread. There are days when you use the oven simply to add some heat, days when your hands ache from the cold of pocketless farmers' market mornings. I love this. I miss color so much :-(. As soon as it hits 60, lets go on a nature walk, yes? 25 January, 2011 17:39. Yes With cameras. And maybe a picnic. There and Back Ag...

A few days ago, I sat at the dining room table in my friends' house. There were four of us, sitting around the table, college friends drinking tea and catching up on each other's lives. ...ubuntu...: Winter.

http://kristinabeth.blogspot.com/2010/12/winter.html

Winter is not my favourite season. By far. When I was younger, I loved autumn, especially as it transitioned to winter. I didn't mind the chill and I loved playing in the snow. It sent a certain thrill through me to smell the crispness of the air which came right before snow. Sigh Those days are no more. But never in the Graduate School of Education. GSE knows not the nature of warmth, I do believe. But, oh well, it is winter, and I suppose I must resign myself to the nature of being cold.

In this city of never-quite-dark,. Night has fallen,. But my mind will not rest. Slipping not into sleep,. Returning instead to that night. It fills my thoughts too often,. Six escalators past security,. And time to board. So sure i was doing the right thing,. It had to be right,. It had been right,. How couldn't it be? Shattering my own heart. Tear-streaked journal pages,. That catch in my throat,. A punch to the gut,. So much was lost,. Like sand thrown into the wind -. I live with few regrets,.

Saturday marked the turning of an era, or at least the reaching of an annual milestone, in my boyfriend's life. Twenty six years previous, his mother, bless her soul, had borne him into this world, no doubt hoping for a well-behaved easygoing son: the kind who seems a blessing and a delight every single moment. A family-owned and interestingly named patch located in Pemberton, New Jersey. When I called Fred on Friday afternoon, he assured me that his blueberries were in season and ready for picking, ...

Thursday, March 15, 2018. Our Journey Through Childhood Cancer. Our cancer story begins around Eden's ninth birthday. Our first clue to her illness was that she was experiencing many fevers and colds over the course of a few weeks, leaving her feeling tired and lethargic. Considering that it was cold and flu season, I wasn't too concerned. Yet, I didn't like how pale she looked- even her lips seemed to have no colour to them. Photo credit Lisa MacIntosh Photography. Learning Cambodia & (Re)Learning the United States

Learning Cambodia and (Re)Learning the United States. Learning in, learning about, learning from. Sunday, July 22, 2012. Sunday, May 1, 2011. Just in case you are wondering, here's some of the differences between driving a motorcycle in Cambodia and the US:. 1 It gets cold riding in the US so the right clothing is a must. I was cold once, no, maybe twice, in Phnom Penh. 2 Wearing skirts to drive does not work too well in the USA. 3 Driving in flip-flops is frowned upon. Sunday, March 6, 2011. The one eve...
