Seattle Smitty: Westward Ho!

http://seattlesmitty.blogspot.com/2011/08/westward-ho.html

Wednesday, August 3, 2011. I had never even considered riding the bike to West Seattle because it seemed to far to even think about pedaling with the kids, but someone else planned it and invited team Smitty to come along, so we went. We rode from Smitty HQ in Shoreline to Alki Beach in West Seattle. We even rode most of the way back. Once we were into friendlier territory Little Girl Smitty was elated to be back on her own bike. The destination/reason for our trip to West Seattle was to see the Navy shi...

Seattle Smitty: Not Quite Double Nickels

http://seattlesmitty.blogspot.com/2011/08/not-quite-double-nickels.html

Monday, August 15, 2011. Not Quite Double Nickels. There were 3 route options for the 2011 Bridge Pedal in Portland, OR this past weekend. We chose the shortest route. 6 bridges in 13 miles. Mrs Smitty and I rousted ourselves and the kids out of bed and got ourselves and our bikes onto the MAX light-rail into downtown from our hotel in the suburbs. We got there in plenty of time to sign-in and make our 9am start time. Once we were on our way people naturally spread out and the route opened up. The final ...

Seattle Smitty: November 2009

http://seattlesmitty.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 15, 2009. The Golden State Says Crazy. We had a relatively quiet Friday in Barstow before more family would come for the weekend. Trains fascinate the kids, so we walked down to the train station to get a closer look. We checked out the Route 66 and railroad museums but the kids were most interested to explore the locomotives and cabooses in the yard. On the walk back to the house we found a preying mantis. The week went so quickly, and we were suddenly on an airplane headed home.

Seattle Smitty: June 2011

http://seattlesmitty.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 27, 2011. Last year's bike camping trip up the closed-to-motor-vehicles Suiattle River Road was such a spectacular time that we did it again this year. We invited a few new friends to come along but in the end only one new family was able to come and even they had to leave one of theirs at home. We were 5 adults and 6 children strong. Everyone had some sort of bike to ride. When more than half your crew is under age 5 there are many reasons and opportunities to stop and take a break. We plan...

Seattle Smitty: August 2009

http://seattlesmitty.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 3, 2009. A Boundy of Places Named Deception. We made a last minute change to our original plan to go on a family-backpacking trip with some friends to a lake near Stevens Pass. The forecast called for possible thunder storms at the cascade crest. Even though it was just 30% chance we thought it best to seek another destination to increase odds of kids having a good time. We ended up at Deception Creek. about 10-miles SW of Stevens Pass. After breakfast (it was nice to toast our bagels rath...

Seattle Smitty: December 2009

http://seattlesmitty.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 4, 2009. King of the Lord Hill and a beaver pond. Haven’t taken the kids out for a blog worthy adventure in a while. We’ve had a few days of crystal clear weather and even though we didn’t take full advantage, we did get out a little. Our first excursion was to Carkeek Park. I normally wouldn’t mention Carkeek ‘cause we go there with some regularity, but it was such a beautiful day that I brought the camera and took a few pics. Friday, December 04, 2009. Seattle Smitty: October 2009

http://seattlesmitty.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 1, 2009. Wiggly Salmon Sand Bridge vs The Yurt Monster. Took the kids to a new (to us) park yesterday. Our intent was to meet up with friends and hike a few of the trails along the river and/or to a scenic hilltop bench. We met our friends in the parking lot but got a little side tracked playing so didn’t get much hiking done, but the kids had a great time… which is more important than how many miles we cover. Seattle Smitty: November 2010

http://seattlesmitty.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 7, 2010. Back in the Saddle. For whatever reason I rarely bring the camera on our outings anymore. I often regret that decision once we're out. This past week we had a few days of stellar weather and I thought to bring the camera. before we left the house. I'm glad I did 'cause I got some great footage of the kids riding their bikes on the ramps at the skate park. Sunday, November 07, 2010. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Seattle Smitty: The Canoe Of Deception

http://seattlesmitty.blogspot.com/2011/07/canoe-of-deception.html

Sunday, July 31, 2011. The Canoe Of Deception. For a change of scenery we decided to take the Ferry to Whidbey Island and drive up the island rather than drive up I-5. The driving mileage is shorter but when you factor in waiting for the ferry and the lower speed limit on the island, it's not the fast way. That was fine with us though because we got a relatively early start and didn't need to be there by any particular time. With enough imagination a toy boat or sandcastle mold can be a stylish hat.
