Experiences of a Kiwi couple living in the Solomon Islands. Thursday, November 21, 2013. A Village visit and seeing a Health Promotion Program in action. Some of the villages are beginning to experience real benefits from this programme. Annie told me that one village that had lots of flies now has no flies as they have made changes to livestock farming (including shifting livestock out of the village), and introduced toilets and waste management. Our 1st class cabin "berth", set up in our wee corner.

Experiences of a Kiwi couple living in the Solomon Islands. Friday, January 24, 2014. A health promotion trip to Makira Island. Although Makira is relatively near to Guadalcanal and Malaita, it is fairly isolated. There are no wharves on the island, few roads, and the seas around are often rough with little reef shelter. The area I visited had no mobile phone coverage. Makira is known for rare birds in the hinterland, and over 100 varieties of bananas! The boat harbour in Kirakira. We stopped at Tarawaha...
