Namche Bazar to Thayangboche. October 30, 2012. Day 4: Tues, Oct 2. 12,465 to 12,670 feet – net vertical rise was about 2200 feet – but we went down about 1000 feet and then back up, so it was actually another very rigorous day). Take most of your pictures early in the day before the clouds come in the sky is typically clear and with the bright sun, you can get fabulous pictures of the mountains, the river, and all the scenery! Om Mani Padme Hum. They are a good crew and fun to be around, and they watch ...

Lukla to Phakding | Suzanne's Everest Base Camp Trek
https://suzeverestbasecamptrek.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/lukla-to-phakding
October 30, 2012. Day 1: Saturday, September 29. Lukla to Phakding (9500 feet to 8530 feet). Departed for the airport at 5 am, for a 6:15 flight to Lukla to begin the Trek. A little jittery because of the plane crash in Katmandu yesterday and knowledge of the dangerous nature of the Lukla airport. But it was amazing! So beautiful all the way there and then seeing the runway and mountains in front of you is just too much! Sat in the first row and literally peered over the pilot’s shoulder! Notify me of ne...

Thyangboche to Dingboche | Suzanne's Everest Base Camp Trek
https://suzeverestbasecamptrek.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/thyangboche-to-dingboche
October 30, 2012. Day 5: Wed, Oct 3. Thyangboche to Dingboche 12,670 – 14,160, via Pangboche 12,894). After breakfast, set off for the day – hiked another beautiful trail which rolled up and down for the first 1/2 hour or so, was mostly downhill, about 400 feet, and then we started climbing up, gently and gradually, but mostly up for the remainder of the day, until we arrived at Dingboche. In total, about an 1890-foot vertical rise for the day. But my favorite is Ama Dablam. In addition to the mountains,...

Namche Bazar | Suzanne's Everest Base Camp Trek
https://suzeverestbasecamptrek.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/namche-bazar
October 30, 2012. Day 3: Mon, Oct 1. Hiked about 15 minutes to an Everest lookout it was amazing. Saw the whole Everest range, with Everest still cloud covered…but the clouds subsided and what a view. Took great pics and just took in the amazing views for a while – then headed up the mountain to The Everest View Hotel – this was at about 12,500 feet. We took a steep step trail that ended in a field that kept going up and finally merged into a trail, running along a cliff all the way to the hotel. However...

October 30, 2012. Thursday, Sept 27. Met John and Karen, Lum and Betsy at Bangkok airport for flight to Kathmandu; meet Aaron at the Kathmandu airport. Arrived Katmandu Guest House. At around 1:30 and met with John Child and A. D. Sherpa (from Friends in High Places. First impression of Kathmandu. We recognized early that it’s important to take along a lot of hand sanitizer walking the dirty streets, touching merchandise and then during the trek, the conditions of the lodges, etc. definitely warrant ...

About | Suzanne's Everest Base Camp Trek
https://suzeverestbasecamptrek.wordpress.com/about-me
I wrote this travel log based on our experience in Nepal. But without question, our outfitter in Nepal, Friends in High Places. Deserves the credit for a great experience. They were excellent in every way; did what they said they would do; reasonable prices, excellent customer service (beyond our level of expectation) , flexible, and easy to work with. And did I mention the Sherpas. WOW! If you’re considering a trek in Nepal, make sure you contact John Child at http:/ www.fihp.com. Enter your comment here.

Dingboche | Suzanne's Everest Base Camp Trek
https://suzeverestbasecamptrek.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/dingboche
October 30, 2012. Day 6: Thurs Oct 4. Acclimatization day. Dingboche to a lookout point for acclimitizing and rest for the afternoon – 14,160 – 16,000 feet. It was still a nearly 2,000’ vertical day. Aaron was feeling much better this morning – thankfully he looks like a new man! The higher we get, the closer it seems we are – you feel like you’re on top of the world yet you’re “only” at 15,000 feet – only? We arrived back at the lodge around 12:15, had lunch and then all went to relax around 2:00. D...

Phakding to Namche Bazar | Suzanne's Everest Base Camp Trek
https://suzeverestbasecamptrek.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/phakding-to-namche-bazar
Phakding to Namche Bazar. October 30, 2012. Day 2: Sun, Sept 30. Phakding to Namche Bazar (8,530 to 11,465 feet)- trekked north along the Dudh Koshi River (The Milky River) … The river is a beautiful fast flowing river that looks bluish white because it flows from the glaciers. Really amazing all the way up. We hiked along it the whole way, and walked over several amazing suspension bridges that sway back and forth – all the bridges have prayer flags and shawls draped over the sides. Very cool. With us t...
