Snippitts of Illusions: If it's not racism, then you're just a dick.

Thursday, October 10, 2013. If it's not racism, then you're just a dick. Oh, it's been too long since I posted. A general malaise may be to blame, or perhaps the concern that every time I felt like posting I worried that it would turn into a diatribe of anger and angst over my surroundings and a lashing out at people that may or may not rightly deserve to be lashed out against. Or maybe I'm just lazy. And do it anyway. So here I am. I'd like to talk to about racism. Don't do it. I once overheard two men ...

Friday, August 08, 2003. OK I got to be honest. When I hear now that Arnold is running for governor of California, I laugh. Not a little chuckle, but a deep hearty laugh. It strikes me as funny, I think it strikes most Americans as funny. Why? Posted by Frank Shaw @ 2:02 AM. Thursday, August 07, 2003. Posted by Frank Shaw @ 3:00 AM. Fiddling with the plots. Friday, August 15, 2003. Posted by Frank Shaw @ 11:41 PM. Tuesday, August 12, 2003. There are giants. Mountains of steel. Hard in body and in spirit standing up to the great machines that wage war upon them. They do not flinch at the detritus hurled at them by ignorant hands. They stand, dignified, and take it. Fists clenched at their sides, stern and steely eyed, these are the giants. I laugh at them. I always have, I always will. They stand and take abuse that thier hulking form cries out for. Why?

Wednesday, May 08, 2013. Hobo in the back row review of A Behanding in Spokane. Is no different. Hearkening back to his earlier comedies, than the darker more surreal Pillowman. Tells the tale of the insane loner Carmichael who had his hand taken away 27 years ago and the couple that tries to cheat him, and the burned out hotel receptionist that just want's something cool to happen while he's at work. I had the opportunity to see The Hive Theater Company's production of a Behanding in Spokane. The majori...

Saturday, July 19, 2003. Posted by Frank Shaw @ 4:31 AM. Tuesday, July 15, 2003. A man died up here last week and although I didn't know him I saw the grief in the young mans eyes who gave me the sign to hang up in the window. I heard the barely controlled voice, pleading and almost broken ask me if I would. Even though I didn't know him his death, unlike so many others who've died that I haven't known, did affect me. It made me think. Posted by Frank Shaw @ 2:56 AM. Sunday, July 13, 2003.

Saturday, July 05, 2003. By the way if you haven't noticed, I haven't yet got the link in on the Fourth of July post. I'll work on it. and I'll try to put one in on the Constitution too. My comment link is fixed however (it wasn't working yesterday) so feel free to post once again. Posted by Frank Shaw @ 2:36 PM. Friday, August 01, 2003. You bet, I want to post on this a couple of more times before the weekend's over, plus I have a short story I'm working on that I want to finish. I'll send it to some of you I know for critiquing when I do. Thanks for reading. Posted by Frank Shaw @ 2:53 AM. Monday, January 26, 2015. A Look at Paul Thomas Andersons' There Will Be Blood. Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood. Is methodical and menacing, from the opening scene in which the main character Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day Lewis) breaks his leg while mining silver, to the final brutal scene. It's visually compelling, with a spot on soundtrack to help punctuate the drama. Daniel Day Lewis is an actor that embraces his characters fully. He becomes them. I have yet to be disappointed with a...Hobo ...

Saturday, July 12, 2003. So I just finished "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. I had resisted reading this book for quite some time, mostly because of all those people who displayed shock and dismay that I hadn't read, and also a little prejuidice. Almost all the people who told me to read it were LDS, and knowing that Card himself was also LDS it forced me to be a little reluctant. Why? Posted by Frank Shaw @ 8:23 AM. Friday, July 11, 2003. And How could there possibly be appropriate times for swearing?
