On formation in 2006 the St James' Finchampstead team were loaned, through the auspices of HRGB, two octaves of bells for a one-year period. During this time team members worked hard and pooled resources to raise the monies required to purchase a two-octave set of Whitechapel Bells. As the team grew in number and became more competent, it became apparent that more handbells were needed. Since then, Sue de Gautier has added a bell in memory of her late husband Bernard and their 30th wedding anniversary...

Musical handbells, tuned in sets and fitted with leather straps, were. Introduced in the late 17th century and quickly became popular among tower bell ringers,. Our all-age group formed in September 2005, and we practise every Monday evening from 6.00 pm in the Church Centre, Church Lane, Finchampstead. There is a special camaraderie within the team - friendships formed, and ringing experiences, techniques and methods shared. We take pleasure in practising and perfecting a wide variety of music, specially adapted for handbells - from nursery rhymes, to hymns, classics and popular music. A lesson in ringing ….
