Book Reflections: May 2011

http://finishedthebook.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Reflections on books I have read - some more academic than others. Saturday, May 21, 2011. Is a story of the power of friendship. Two boys who were so different, and yet so much alike, found companionship and comfort from one another. Each had their limitations, but together they became the unconquerable dyad, Freak the Mighty. The story gets its power from the point of view, the character development, and the conflict of the plot. The book is written in first person, in the words of Maxwell. When the tw...

Book Reflections: February 2013

http://finishedthebook.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Reflections on books I have read - some more academic than others. Thursday, February 21, 2013. I really enjoyed both of these books. At least until the final pages of Insurgent. I just didn't quite like the idea of the whole society being an experiment. It reminded me too much of M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village.". As far as the other conflict - the war between the factions, I'm not quite sure I understand it now that the underlying reasons were revealed. To me, a leader of Erudite who only wanted ...

Book Reflections: Captives

http://finishedthebook.blogspot.com/2013/08/captives.html

Reflections on books I have read - some more academic than others. Tuesday, August 13, 2013. 8220;The world does not need more Christian literature. What it needs is more Christians writing good literature.” – C.S. Lewis. While it is great Christian literature, I would not say that Captives. By Jill Williamson can compete with great contemporary YA dystopian novels, like Divergent. By Veronica Roth, Under the Never Sky. By Veronica Rossi, or Partials. By Dan Wells . Towards the end of the book, when Levi...

Book Reflections: October 2013

http://finishedthebook.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Reflections on books I have read - some more academic than others. Sunday, October 27, 2013. Allegiant: A Good Way to Die. Regardless, I feel like I could have handled all of the didactic-ness if she hadn’t KILLED OFF THE MAIN CHARACTER. Really? You preach at me for a whole book, AND kill off the main character? When I was done reading and ranting about it to my husband, he asked, “Did she die a good death? 8221; And I had to admit that she did; in every way that a death can be a good one, she died it.

Nomadic Inklings: Shrunken Heads

http://nomadicinklings.blogspot.com/2012/09/shrunken-heads.html

Wednesday, September 19, 2012. So, today Josh was watching this British tv show called QI. They were talking about the most effective way to weigh your own head. Anyhow, I don't know what they said that made Josh pause and demand that when he dies I carry around his head in a velvet bag. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Check out these sites:. Nomadic Inklings: October 2014

http://nomadicinklings.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Books I have loved. The Chronicles of Narnia. By CS Lewis: I first read them when I was 13. I finished all seven in three days because I couldn’t stop reading them. They were the first fantasy books I read, and I’ve loved fantasy ever since. By Rosemary Sutcliff: It made me fall in love with British history. For the Time Being. By Annie Dillard: Growing up as a Christian, you hear that it’s okay to question your faith. This woman does it properly. Peace Like a River.

Nomadic Inklings: May 2013

http://nomadicinklings.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 16, 2013. A startled feeling as I first see my Grandma. It really does look like she is just asleep. Closer up, the first thing I notice are her Steelers earrings, placed in holes that I have always thought are low and forward on her longer lobes. The only thing that looks unnatural about her is her hands. The color on them is too smooth, too monotone. Her hands have been dappled for years now, and her fingers would hang at a weird angle when she would clench her hands together....I ask him...

Nomadic Inklings: February 2012

http://nomadicinklings.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 2, 2012. I left WalMart with just four things - strawberry plants, seeds for corn, seeds for peas, and a clump of onion shoots (or whatever they are called). I got them home, started thinking about where I would put them, got stressed out about it (because there are too many choices in our backyard), and left them in a bag by the door. So that is how my garden is coming along. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Check out these sites:. Rachel's blog "Book Reflections". New* TV episodes Reviews.

Nomadic Inklings: Student Bubbles

http://nomadicinklings.blogspot.com/2012/09/student-bubbles.html

Thursday, September 20, 2012. Today, my pre-AP students were presenting different Shakespeare plays. One of the groups was doing Hamlet. For the scene where Ophelia dies, they created a cardboard lake. Ophelia sank behind it. Then blew soap bubbles. How smart and creative is that? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Finished Stitches

Longarm quilting with modern, freehand designs by Marcia and Vicki. Monday, January 2, 2012. Finished Stitches has moved to this address. Posted by Vicki H. Saturday, December 10, 2011. Here is a close up of a leaf and flower overall pattern that I quilted this last week. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of the whole quilt. They are Christmas presents for a customer so not showing all of it is probably the safest idea! This is white thread on a white background fabric. Posted by Vicki H. Kathy made ...

Book Reflections

Reflections on books I have read - some more academic than others. Tuesday, November 12, 2013. A Rescue Mission on a Cosmic Scale. I have loved Stephen Lawhead. 8217;s books since I first read Byzantium. One finals week in college. One of the best things about his writings is that he includes enough well-researched history or, in the case of the Bright Empires. Series, science, that the events seem plausible. I have always found it exceedingly easy to suspend disbelief while reading his stories. He goes ...

I Finished the Internets!

Saturday, May 30, 2009. So let me explain. I created a blog a year or so ago.possibly longer. Then I didn't. You see, I have Netflix, and the public library, and honestly, I rarely watch the things I own. I'm too busy watching things I don't own. As I did watch them, I would decide whether I would keep them in my collection or I would offer them up for sale on Ebay and the like. This didn't really happen. You know, for the sake of posterity. So I decided to do such a thing. Or at least just create a ...
