This is a test of the Mugar Omnimax Theatre. It was a dark and stormy night. On 2010.12.07 at 14:24. If you'd like to fork the story at any point into your own lj, feel free. My suggestions are that you keep the fork as a public-level entry, and that you leave an LJ reply at the point where you forked for others to follow. All are invited to play; feel free to point others to this post. It was a dark and stormy night. The woman asks the man. "I haven't seen someone playing shumashi in years.". No, it's n...

Endorsement - Jeff Bigler

Challenges & frustrations. Originally published at Waterboarding the Horse. You can comment here or there. A couple of times each year I survey my students to find out what they liked and didn’t like about my classes. Every once in a while, I see something in their comments that makes me feel really good. This year, it was the following comment, in response to the question, “What advice would you give to future students who have Mr. Bigler? Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Post from October 2011:.

same-sex marriage rights - David Krikorian
http://exponentialdk.livejournal.com/11975.html
Same-sex marriage rights - David Krikorian. Feb 14th, 2004. I'm probably going to anger many people here by *not* coming out clearly in favor of same-sex marriage rights. Let me explain my position. Altogether, 4 main concepts have been merged into "marriage," and it is this overloading of the term that is causing the current political clash between those who already have what they want, and those who don't. The 2 meanings of marriage as a partnership:. The 2 meanings of marriage as parenthood:. I believ...

On the job market again - Somewhat. Nov 7th, 2009. On the job market again. Well, Current Employer has finally gone well and truly crazy, and it's time for me to restart the old job hunt. Basically, they ran out of money without warning anybody, and decided to furlough the entire Cambridge office over the next couple of months, starting next week. Surprise! But wait, there's more! November 7th, 2009 05:33 pm (UTC). This furlough is in effect a layoff with no severance. November 7th, 2009 05:39 pm (UTC).

The Dark and Obscure Art of the Phone Interview - Somewhat. Sep 12th, 2008. The Dark and Obscure Art of the Phone Interview. Being in the midst of a job hunt, I am doing a lot of phone interviews. Because I hate phone interviews with the burning fury of a thousand suns, I would very much prefer that the phone interviews that must be conducted yield a maximum amount of useful information in a minimum of time, so that I don't have to do, eg, four or more phone interviews with the same company. Note to Comp...

Dear Fidelity - Somewhat
http://nonnihil.livejournal.com/15776.html
Dear Fidelity - Somewhat. Jan 2nd, 2009. First of all, let's get the simple stuff out of the way. I do not hate you for losing a lot of my money. Everybody loses money now and then, and I wouldn't have entrusted you with it if I weren't willing to take a risk. Times are hard, and I appreciate that. So I don't hate you for losing lots of my money. I do, however, hate you for absolutely everything else. Money, rather than vice versa, I would assert that some confusing information that you. Of course, none ...

Programming languages: Comparative Spookiness - Somewhat

Programming languages: Comparative Spookiness - Somewhat. Apr 11th, 2010. Programming languages: Comparative Spookiness. This is going to be a long, rambling, nerdy post. Non-CS people can safely TLDR it. Writing a lot of haskell recently has got me thinking about spooky things in programming languages. This is not theoretically. It reminds me very much of first encountering perl - you remember, you were blown away, totally amazed, dumbfounded at how much expressive power could be packed into such a smal...
