Bangkok City Birding: May 2015
http://bangkokcitybirding.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 10, 2015. Five broadbills in five hours. I spent this morning birding at Kaeng Krachan National Park, focusing on the "three streams" area beyond Bang Krang camp. Being a weekend in the middle of nesting season this area was very very popular with bird phtographers, but I still managed to get away from the crowds to find my own birds. As I dove through the National Park soon after first light I picked up three Blue-winged Pittas. Associating with a male Orange-breasted Trogon. Today really wa...

Bangkok City Birding: November 2014
http://bangkokcitybirding.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 26, 2014. A walk around Suan Rot Fai this morning produced a few notable birds including a Peregrine. Three Pale-legged/Sakhalin Leaf Warblers. Two Grey-headed Canary Flycatchers. And two species of Bittern. On the same pool - a juv Cinnamon. And two adult male Yellows. Most bizarre to see was a Chinese Pond Heron in full breeding plumage - presumably the same bird that I saw in late October, featured on Birding Frontiers. Monday, November 24, 2014. 22nd and 23rd Nov 2014. This mornin...

Bangkok City Birding: February 2015
http://bangkokcitybirding.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 8, 2015. Birding on the patch this weekend produced views of the Hartert's Leaf Warbler. On both days. On Sunday I watched it taking a shower alongside Radde's. When the Park's sprinkler system was turned on! Taiga Flycatcher (with just a hint of red throat). Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Once again I went out to photograph the Hartert's Leaf Warbler. Before work this morning. On viewing these photos afterwards I noted that the bird is missing a toe from its right foot. Behaviour wise it ...

Bangkok City Birding: June 2015
http://bangkokcitybirding.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Working in Mae Sot the last couple of days allowed me to get out to the fields between the airport and Mae Tao village this morning for an hour. The main highlight was encountering both Chestnut-capped. And and Yellow-eyed babblers. A single of the former, and about five of the latter) as well as at least three Red avadavats. And flock of 15 Little Bee-eaters. Sunday, June 14, 2015. Panti Forest, 6-8th June. Our objective was simple: See a. We stayed at the Mayres Hotel in the t...

Bangkok City Birding: April 2015
http://bangkokcitybirding.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Whilst reviewing photos of the male "Chinese Sparrowhawk" that I saw on Saturday I became a bit less certain about the ID - looking at various on-line resources I realised that there was more overlap in the features of male Chinese and Japanese Sprawks than I had previously appreciated (yes, I need to spend some time next autumn doing some serious sessions on Khao Dinsor to get my skills honed! Sunday, April 26, 2015. The female Japanese Thrush. Other birds in the park this morni...

Bangkok City Birding: January 2015
http://bangkokcitybirding.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 31, 2015. After a pretty productive morning on the patch, which had already produced only my second record of Grey-headed Lapwing. Again a flyover) and the Lineated Barbet. I walked into "the secret garden", an area that is off limits to the public, but which has lots of big trees and good cover, and was where the "mystery Phyllosc. Soon after entering the secret garden I found a ground-loving phyllosc which turned out to be a Radde's Warbler. Of the nominate race goodsoni. That was pho...

Bangkok City Birding: Ruby Wednesday
http://bangkokcitybirding.blogspot.com/2013/03/ruby-wednesday.html
Wednesday, March 20, 2013. I'm in Mae Sot again this week, and so I made a short pre-breakfast visit to the fields south of the airport, just a kilometer or so from the Burmese border. The highlight this morning was a rather crispy male Siberian Rubythroat. There were also lots of spankingly bright male Siberian Stonechats. In breeding plumage whizzing around, a dozen or so Barn Swallows. Including a male singing, which suddenly brought forth a flood of nostalgia for British summers gone by! After visiti...

Saturday, August 30, 2014. Suan Rot Fai 6am - 9am with Graham Gordon produced somewhere between three and six Yellow-rumped Flycatchers. At least two males) and three Arctic Warblers. After I left, Graham also saw two Forest Wagtails. And an unidentified Raptor. Resident species seen included a Stork-billed Kingfisher and Green-billed Malkhoa. Sunday, August 24, 2014. Zero birding done during the last week, with the work schedule from Hell keeping me welded to my desk for nearly every waking hour. Appear...

Bangkok City Birding: September 2014
http://bangkokcitybirding.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 30, 2014. The long drive from Glasgow airport to my family home in Cambridgeshire was broken with a few hours spent at Spurn to see a juv Masked Shrike. Only Britain's third record). The bird showed well, hunting along a hedgerow filled with ripe haws, though it was a little distant for the camera. I also had a bit of time to watch a Jack Snipe. At close range on the Canal Scrape, had a Peregrine. Go up the Point and saw a newly found Richard's Pipit. I also managed to see both Stoat.
