Fishing small streams: Engage

http://fishingsmallstreams.blogspot.com/2015/08/engagei.html

Exploring the brooks and streams of the Adirondacks and Southern New England. Saturday, August 1, 2015. The fun and challenge of fly fishing for me is the observing and adapting to whatever is happening at the moment. This requires you to be alert and engaged, thinking through what you are observing and processing it through your past experience and knowledge. I was reminded of this just yesterday. A brown that was holding in less that 2 feet of water. August 2, 2015 at 6:19 AM. August 2, 2015 at 3:31 PM.

Fishing small streams: July 2015

http://fishingsmallstreams.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Exploring the brooks and streams of the Adirondacks and Southern New England. Tuesday, July 28, 2015. This evening after work I thought I would go looking for some small stream brown trout. It's been hot and dry here in southern New England. The stream was low but cool. On the first cast into the head of a decent pool I was able to connect with a hefty wild brown that put up quite a battle. A couple more wild browns attacked the Ausable bomber and one brook trout. Sunset in the forest. A stream born brown.

Fishing small streams: November 2014

Exploring the brooks and streams of the Adirondacks and Southern New England. Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Ruby River 7'6" 3wt. An overcast late November day. Ruby River 6'7" 3wt paired up with an Orvis Battenkill I and 3DT line. Wishing all of you a blessed Thanksgiving with your families! Sunday, November 16, 2014. A November afternoon walk. This afternoon I took a walk along a favorite small stream. The water level was predictably low and I saw and spooked more fish than I coaxed to the fly. Yesterda...

Wishing all of you a Merry Christmas and best wishes to all in 2015. Thanks for following along for another year! Christ the Lord. http://fishingsmallstreams.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Exploring the brooks and streams of the Adirondacks and Southern New England. Monday, February 23, 2015. February in the Adirondacks. The streams are all iced over and under several feet of snow but that doesn't mean that we don't get out to enjoy the beauty of the mountains in winter. Here are some pictures from a recent outing into the Adirondack back-country after some fresh snow. The sun beginning to break through. A frozen Adirondack bog. Massive Adirondack White Pine. The frozen Jessup River. By la...

Fishing small streams: April 2015

http://fishingsmallstreams.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Exploring the brooks and streams of the Adirondacks and Southern New England. Sunday, April 19, 2015. The Connecticut landscape full of laurel and ledges. Signs of new life. Pete and I were out enjoying another warm spring afternoon watching the brook trout turning themselves inside out chasing down the Royal Wulff. When I lost my smaller Wulff, I ended up fishing a size #12 and they were still smacking it. I don't have any idea how many fish we actually brought to hand but it didn't really matter, we bo...

Fishing small streams: The gospel

http://fishingsmallstreams.blogspot.com/p/the-gospel.html

Exploring the brooks and streams of the Adirondacks and Southern New England. The word gospel simply means “good news”. It is the announcement of peace between God and mankind. But if the gospel announces peace what is the reason there is not peace? I would be happy to address any questions you might have, please feel free to contact me via email…mark. Here are some links to gospel centered preaching for those interested in hearing more…. White Oak Baptist Church (Wallingford, CT). And Blessings to you.

Fishing small streams: October 2014

http://fishingsmallstreams.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Exploring the brooks and streams of the Adirondacks and Southern New England. Friday, October 31, 2014. Good bye to October. The last day of October, and the air felt more like November than October. The trees are losing more of their leaves every day and just the odd golden beech or orange of red maple or oak remain. The days are getting noticeably shorter as November approaches and with the return of eastern standard time, darkness is going to be coming an hour earlier. The remnants of an old dam.

FISHING FOR SPOTTED SEATROUT" by Jan S. Maizler. Ldquo;Despite having fished seatrout for years, I hadn’t any idea how much I didn’t know until I read Maizler’s definitive new work on the species.”—Doug Olander, editor in chief,. Ldquo;Maizler’s name has been inexorably linked to seatrout for decades. This book is an overdue, welcome, and essential addition to our angling literature. Kudos to the master!
