Tuesday, February 17, 2009. A couple of weeks ago I scheduled a trip to fish on Georgia’s Lake Sydney Lanier. I was the guest of 1988 Bassmaster Classic qualifier Doug Youngblood, who fishes Lanier more than 300 days a year and is just a phenomenal angler. No doubt the fish are moving around the water column with more freedom and this means they get harder to find on the sonar. It becomes increasingly important to pay attention to what’s happening around you so you can figure out “where” to fish if you want to increase your odds of getting some bites. Nick has been out with me before and though we’ve boated some fish in previous trips, we’ve never had anything near as good as we had it today! August 2, 2012. August 2, 2012. Striper fishing continues to be awesome. Spent the afternoon doing a lot of “catching” today with my fishing bud Chris. We boated 25 fish and they were all jigged. We fished from 1-6 PM and could have kept catching them if I wasn’t exhausted! With only 1-2 under 10 lbs, these fish were strong! The big fish of the day took my bait right at the boat! August 22, 2012. August 22, 2012. Fishing continues to be strong. Today Rick and I only boated 9 but all it takes is one 35 lb’er and the trip becomes one that will not soon be forgotten. This girl was massive – my biggest this year – and I’m happy to say she went back down into Lanier with no problems. Hopefully she’ll grow another 10 lbs and let me catch her again!
