Sunday, February 27, 2011. Fistula of the withers. I found it very strange that there wasn't very much information on this blemish. Fistula of the withers is an inflamed swelling of the withers. They are very rare and can cause unsoundness. We had a horse at the fort that this happened to and he seemed ok when he was in the pasture but once saddled the pain was obvious.
