Friday, January 26, 2007. Just a different class. When Andy Murray lost in five sets the other day much was made of his gallant display. He had taken the world number two all the way and at times made him look ordinary. People talked of grand slams. Now I took a slightly different view. Firstly he had lost the fifth set a little tamely as if, yet again, he was running out of gas AND just what sort of form was Nadal in? Monday, January 22, 2007. When I was a lad. At the moment there are 3 potential domest...

Sunday, March 02, 2008. Boxing is in an odd state. It is possible that Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield will get back in the ring again, 10 years ago this was an exciting fight but now? Its a circus show. Floyd Mayweather is considered the best pound for pound boxer on the planet. He has won world titles at five different weights he has beaten some big names and he recently ended the unbeaten record of Ricky Hatton. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Saturday, February 23, 2008. Its been a while! Perhaps the biggest story for UK sport has been the plans by the premiership to play an extra game overseas. Let me first say that I think this is fundamentaly wrong but inevitable. Historically clubs have been strongly linked with their local area. With the exception of the MK Dons/Wimbledon fiasco we have yet to see a move (well not in my life time). Football is not like American sports where teams are franchises. Fans need to understand that it is no long...

Sunday, April 29, 2007. The World Cup is over. And so Australia duly one. They are easily the best nad most consistent team. The fact that the final descended into chaos shows that the ICC really don't know what they are doing. Secondly it was WAY too long. They need to cut it down significantly and cut the elapsed time. How about not 8 teams going straight to knock out with the group winners affectively winning the toss in the quarters? Less games means less money so it will never happen. 3 out of 4?

Friday, September 02, 2011. You can never please the public. Dai Greene won the gold medal at the Athletics World Championships yesterday in the 400m hurdles. Now I commented to a colleague what a fine achievement this was and he agreed. When I looked on a BBC blog about Greene's win this morning a numebr of commentators were dismissive. It was a flash in the pan. It was the slowest time ever to win the event. etc etc. Flash in the pan? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). You can never please the public.

Thursday, December 28, 2006. So we have lost be an innings in 3 days. Rumours abound that the dressing room is divided. Sigh 5-0 beckons. As Ian Chapell says England have the nucleus of a good team. If everyone is fit we have a good attack and a promising battign line up. Do they care enough? The Aussies wanted this very badly. Anyway enough of that. Happy Christmas Les Read. Yep not only was he one the shortest reigning premiership manager ever but he was sacked Christmas Eve! Monday, December 18, 2006.

Friday, May 25, 2007. So after my many rants about Michael Vaughan what does he do? Gets a hundred. I still maintain he should never have been selected BUT well done to the man for sticking two fingers up at us doubters. Tuesday, May 22, 2007. I'm confused again. We've called up Ryan Sidebottom. Now I have nothing against Ryan but that was slightly left field. Then again can he do any worse than Steve "where's my radar" Harmisson? This presents a problem if Vaughan and Freddie are fit who gets dropped?

Friday, November 24, 2006. Seems my worst fears were realised. Our bowling attack, Freddie an honourable exception, had absolutely no penetration. We are going to have to ask is Harmisson really that good. Yes I KNOW he was world number 1 but for a few years now he has show no consistency and has put in few performances of note. Was he an ordinary player who hit a purple vein of form or is a good player now out of form. Wednesday, November 22, 2006. And so the Ashes. Saturday, November 18, 2006. Whether ...

Thursday, July 28, 2011. Are we Sports fans? Its less than a year to go to the Olympics and a quick straw poll of the office found a distinct lack of enthusiasm. A few colleagues have applied for and got tickets but most are uninterested. General comment are "we'll make a hash of it" "waste of money" the usual I suppose. I suspect that if it was the Football World Cup there would be considerable support. We often say we are sports fans? The question is are we? Or are we Football fans? Yes its been a while.
