Generally 1066 through to 1485 when Henry VII, the first Tudor Monarch ascended to the throne. Quite a large slice of history, 400 years, but fashion changed quite slowly during this period. This page is still under construction.

Make no bones about it (sorry! Corsets are designed to be tightly laced and they are, by their nature, restricting. Eating, drinking, sitting and standing (not to mention driving! Can feel odd to begin with, especially if you only wear it occasionally. The secret is to get a corset in the correct size and not over-do things until you get used to it. Around 1730 the cut of stays began to evolve and have a slightly more sophisticated cut. The shape and posture of the Georgian figure was similar to that of the Elizabethan era, but the body length was not so exaggerated. Boning was still heavy to begin with, but the quantity of boning slowly reduced through the century until the corset. This feature can be adapted for modern ladies. Costume shirt' is not a generally used term but one which came about in my days of re-enacting where the term was used to distinguish it from a 'normal' 20th Century shirt. From early days up to around 1800 shirts didn't change that much, simply based on squares of differing sizes put together in various ways. Gathering, around the neck and on the sleeves, comes and goes over the centuries, as does decorations of embroidery and lace. They can be quite long too. Here are a few pictures and prices to help.
