Flood Street Farmlet

Friday, 17 June 2011. Unfortunately the pending sale of the block of land did not proceed. I find it odd that people will commit to purchasing a real estate if they're not sure they can obtain the finances. Our potential purchaser jumped in, then tried to find the finance, and when that didn't work out, well, we get a situation like this one! What's worse is we also get a bill for the services of our solicitor every time someone leads us astray in this fashion. I've also turned my old bit of railway line...

Flood Street Farmlet: Remember Me?!

http://floodstreetfarmlet.blogspot.com/2011/05/remember-me.html

Wednesday, 4 May 2011. It's been a summer of ups and downs, and there's been a great deal on socially that has hindered a lot of the plans for more productive work. I will start out saying that taking up lawn bowls is not something that should be considered lightly if you value your weekend freedom! On the other hand, it's great for making friends and having a good time. We've managed to get out and about on the odd occasion too. The vegetable garden has produced a moderate amount for us, beans were good...

Flood Street Farmlet: October 2009

http://floodstreetfarmlet.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, 29 October 2009. We Know Not What We Ask For. I have often been labelled as pessimistic, though I often like to think of it as making sensible choices as to what to be optimistic about. A recent post through the peak oil mailing list I subscribe to was both troubling and illuminating at the same time. The article " Obama Turns to the Financial Elite for Campaign Cash. The “investment community” feels “put-upon? Yet the masses just trundle along hoping to get ahead. Sure they must get outrag...

Tuesday, 23 February 2010. Religio-Industrial Vegetarianism And Peak Oil. Once again we are plagued with a religious radicalism, forced to endure half-truths and strawmen set up to direct people along a narrow road toward a mis-Utopia masquerading as a logical solution to our woes. Where does the food that vegetarian's consume come from? Who actively takes on the karma begotten through this slaughter? What about the effects of the pesticides and fertilisers that the earth is salted with in order to raise...

Flood Street Farmlet: December 2009

http://floodstreetfarmlet.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 15 December 2009. Yes, we finally did it. Weekend before last we were able to complete the shed! With help from DW and DM the gutters went up, the roof went on, and and all the final bits and pieces were completed. I can't say it was fun, a day on a glaring and hot roof isn't the most pleasant way to spend time. It's strange, but now, at the end of it all I'm left feeling a bit empty and unsure of where to go next. Then again, maybe it's totally the opposite? So, where to now? Only 1 to 1.5 ...

Flood Street Farmlet: Update October 2010

http://floodstreetfarmlet.blogspot.com/2010/10/update-october-2010.html

Friday, 8 October 2010. How's that for a title? Yeah, I thought so too. We've had somewhere around 15 chicks over the last few weeks, 5 hatched out by a bantam, and I'm pretty sure we've got 10 left out of 12 or so eggs that hatched in the incubator. Not a bad start to the year, and we'll be trading some incubator time with another gentleman for a couple of chooks of different breeds. Here's Lilly, Lil, LillyPilly or #@&*! Little Lilly is pretty cute! 8 October 2010 at 8:39 pm. Hi Duck Herder,. Under The...

Peak Oil & Permaculture: Permaculture One

http://peakoilpermaculture.blogspot.com/2008/06/permaculture-one.html

Peak Oil and Permaculture. How can permaculture help us prepare for peak oil (and therefore by default) climate change? Welcome to my blog about relocalisation, energy descent, transition, sustainability and community. Tuesday, June 3, 2008. I was looking through Permaculture One the other day at a friend's house. It was written in 1978 (I think) and was essentially the thesis that came from David Holmgren (student) working with Bill Mollison (mentor/tutor). It is Permaculture's first book. As a young te...

Peak Oil and Permaculture. How can permaculture help us prepare for peak oil (and therefore by default) climate change? Welcome to my blog about relocalisation, energy descent, transition, sustainability and community. Monday, November 12, 2007. A community working bee. One of the outcomes from our relocalisation group the first working bee day was a resounding success. The group decided to focus on food supply and helping those members out who don't have their own food garden was top of the list. Waitin...

Wednesday, May 21, 2008. Busy, busy, busy. It's been a busy couple of weeks since my last post. Of course the spinning has kept me busy as has a few weekend jaunts to my parent's place. Since then I have acquired yet another pet, this time from. Who we met through a great site -. He was giving away a gorgeous Angora goat called Billie Jean, how could I resist? Off to peek at my soap, shouldn't really I know, but I can't resist! Saturday, May 3, 2008. Wow, what a pro! Something to aspire to lol. Yup, whee...
