The story goes that it started with $25. In 1977 five animal lovers, each pitching in $5, formed the Floyd County Animal Rescue League. Abandoned dogs and cats were rampant in New Albany and throughout Floyd County. It is a long process to complete the type of grant that facilitated our county-wide survey – not to mention analyzing all the artifacts! 8211; but after much hard work, we finally did it! We surveyed almost 530 acres total and discovered 78 previously unknown sites, with an average site density of one site per 6.61 acres. Early Archaic: 3 sites. Middle to Late Archaic: 1 site.
