Garden-City: August 2006

Thursday, August 31, 2006. Not in dublin anymore, toto. Not quite south enough to be El Barrio, where panaderias and cuchifritas line the shop awnings, where i feel close to San Antonio and places closer to South America that i've been. And not west enough to be the Heart of Harlem, but on the edge of gentrification. I implored the lady who insisted i add a return address sticker to the package, and had slapped it over my carefully arranged front address image. "sorry to be a snooty artist," i smiled).

Wednesday, February 21, 2007. Lord, for thy tender mercy's sake, lay not our sins to our charge, but forgive that is past, and give us grace to amend our sinful lives; to decline from sin and incline to virtue, that we may walk with a perfect heart before thee now and evermore. Amen. Announce to my people their rebellion,. To the house of Jacob their sins. Yet day after day they seek me and delight to know my ways,. As if they were a nation that practiced righteousness. They ask of me righteous judgments,.

My computer-literate friend, Ed, pointed out that it is the correct address to see the nice colors and formatting that makes it better than reading a plain ol text email.]. We did stop later along a sand bar to test out the waves there- much calmer than our earlier beach experience, and collected shells and, more peculiarly, stones from a wide swat...

Monday, December 11, 2006. One week of winter. Then last week, when i came to New Dramatists. On Tuesday, one of the interns said, "i've got to get a hair dryer. My hair is frozen." It felt like 9 degrees F at 10am. Today the weather has returned to a bearable upper forties. Posted by ceciliabrie at 5:35 PM. Saturday, October 28, 2006. I am in love with a sentence i've just read on this rainy Manhattan day:. From there he must have seen it all, the plain, the sea, and then these self-same hills, that some call mountains, indigo in places in the evening light, their serried ranges crowding to the skyline, cloven with hidden valleys that the eye divines from sudden shifts of colour and then from other signs for which there are no words, nor even thoughts.". Thursday, November 30, 2006. Warm enough for a texan. It is 68 degrees fahrenheit in New York City right now. Posted by ceciliabrie at 4:24 PM. Tuesday, November 28, 2006. Oddity on the street #1. When i got off the train in the darkening 4:30 evening, i passed a young woman dressed in a black mini-skirt, bare legs, Reef flip-flops, and a winter jacket with a fur-trimmed hood. We just don't know how to dress for such warm November days! On Sunday, i went to see My Name Is Rachel Corrie. Taken from Amelia...

Friday, January 26, 2007. On a cold day. The hard part about flying is that you have to leave the ground behind. Posted by ceciliabrie at 2:50 PM. Monday, January 15, 2007. I just noticed that back in December I promised an excerpt from my final paper, "The Influence of Brecht and Beckett on a Christian Theatre.". Here's a bit about Bertolt Brecht. Beginning with a chunk of dialogue from. St Joan of the Stockyards. The difficulties that have weighed upon us. Are clearing. Poverty and hunger, crime. One t...
