Most Indian cuisines are related by similiar usage of spices. Often, Indian cooking is distinguished by the use of a larger variety of vegetables than many other well-known cuisines. Within these recognisable similarities, there is an enormous variety of local styles. All along the northern plain, from Punjab through Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, a variety of flo...

The Cozy Tea-Blue Hearth: November 2007
http://teabluehearth.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
The Cozy Tea-Blue Hearth. Sharing our daily bread. Monday, November 19, 2007. I love this very simple cucumber salad. Just wash a cucumber and cut off parallel strips of peel (lengthwise) to make a pretty pattern around the edge, then slice into thin circles and add a generous amount of your favorite Italian or oil-and-vinegar dressing. Mix it a bit and let it sit for several minutes so the flavors can blend, and then enjoy! This is an especially great accompaniment to a delicious veggie pizza. In the la...

The Cozy Tea-Blue Hearth: homemade ghee
http://teabluehearth.blogspot.com/2008/12/homemade-ghee.html
The Cozy Tea-Blue Hearth. Sharing our daily bread. Saturday, December 27, 2008. I finally made homemade ghee! I read something really neat about ghee.first, the milk comes from the cow. Then the best part, the cream, is separated out. Then the best part of the cream is extracted as butter. Then the ghee is rendered from that butter. Because of this one can see that it's important to use good-quality butter from healthy cows that have been well-fed and well-treated. I'd never understood what the point of ...

Organized Chaos: January 2010
http://indiaorganizedchaos.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
A collaborative work between my sister and I on our separate and combined travels through india. Thursday, January 21, 2010. There are few pictures in this entry. Keep in mind that I spent the day in the bus and I've learned that trying to take pictures from a bus is a wasted effort. And since I had a film camera at the time, I decided not to waste film on blurred images. I think I could walk faster than this bus! On the bus, there are signs asking people not to eat Paan. Check out the recipe for paan on.

Amanda's Folklife Blog: Using Your Hands Makes Eating More Enjoyable
http://amandasf121blog.blogspot.com/2007/11/using-your-hands-makes-eating-more.html
My blog was established in conjunction with my participation in Folk 121 "World Arts and Cultures at Indiana University, Fall 2007". Sunday, November 11, 2007. Using Your Hands Makes Eating More Enjoyable. Before even walking through the doors of Shanti, we were greeted by the smells that are very unique to Indian cuisine. Most people that I talk to, do not care for the smell of Indian food. I love it! This is my response to the Fourth Encounter Project Restaurant Visit. Http:/ www.food-india.com/.
