Umhlanga Rocks, Durban. The iconic hotel needed a new garden after its massive facelift in 2008. The garden features all the evocative tropical key plants such as. Together with local subtropical coastal plants, giving the garden a romantic and relaxed colonial air. Thickly planted areas are punctuated with functional clearings such as the wedding garden and the fountain court, allowing seclusion in a relatively small garden. Splashes of bright colour balance the playful architecture.

In a golf estate. Steenberg, Cape Town. This tiny garden leads directly onto the greens and bunkers of a golf course. The shapes of the course have been borrowed and used for the organic shapes of the decking thus providing a linkage to the greater landscape. There is no lawn, just a sinuous composition of gentle grasses, both ornamental and local; succulents; screening shrubs and weathered decking. The garden is simple, easy, sexy.
