On the plans that I still have, the site is to be occupied by accommodation for the frail elderly – one of the main reasons that the ‘powers-that-be’ gave for the demolition to go ahead. D)The house was originally the home of Henry Adkins a Smethwick industrialist who retired there in 1880 and died in 1889. It seems highly likely to me that Adkins had the house built on the farm land. The 1831 map shows no dwelling. The 1884 maps show the house and landscaped gardens but no lake. The Adkins family then sold it to the Palethorpe family (Sausages. The house was used by park keepers for many years.

Riends of Ley Hill Park meetings (2015) are all held at 11.00 at Holloway Hall B31 1tt. They last about an hour. Next meeting is July 18. We meet every Thursday at 1030 am. At the car park and for about a hour do stuff in the park. We also meet about 6 times a year on a Sunday. A Balsam Bash /Brook tidy (wellies needed). Playing in the mud?
