An American in Paris. October 2, 2016. It seems strange to combine the words Rome and suburbs together. To me Rome is very ancient and suburbs are new. On a recent trip to Italy I took a tour of the Roman suburbs and learned a lot about ancient Rome. The Pope’s summer villa–the brown building on the right. An American in Paris. October 15, 2016. Our first stop Saturday morning was the Mercato Centrale. The building was designed specifically for the indoor market in the late 19th century and it was full of stalls of beautiful and wonderfully scented foods. Pasta, chianti, olive oils, and spices. Wonderful Italian meats, cheeses, olives, and spreads. Mosetto cotto–cooked nose; and some pigs feet in the back. Cervello vitello–veal brains and on the right, coda vitellone–beef tail. More Italian cold cuts.

An American in Paris. October 7, 2016. On our trip to Italy I took the metro up to Rome. My knee was bothering me a bit so I took one of those Hop On-Hop Off tours around the town. I snapped some photos from the top of the bus. After the bus tour I did a bit of shopping and then metroed back down to where our hotel was. Paris isn’t the only place with heightened security.
