Frontier Carpenter: April 2014

https://frontiercarpenter.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Early American Woodworking and Pioneer skills. Wednesday, April 23, 2014. This Week in My Forge. Finally the weather is getting nice so. Been able to get back into my forge for some tinkering around. My dog is my chief engineer and security consultant with all my projects and today was no exception. She would not get out of the way until I took her picture. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Frontier Carpenter: Shrink Pots and Birch Bark Containers

https://frontiercarpenter.blogspot.com/2014/07/shrink-pots-and-birch-bark-containers.html

Early American Woodworking and Pioneer skills. Thursday, July 24, 2014. Shrink Pots and Birch Bark Containers. Some random projects of this summer. The shrink pot is made out of Chinese Elm and to my surprise is water tight. The spoon is carved out of apple wood. Of course all of this had to be approved by. My dog who is in charge of all snacks containing meats and gravies as well as anything photographed in her yard. She also loves to have her picture taken. July 29, 2014 at 6:39 AM.

Frontier Carpenter: December 2012

https://frontiercarpenter.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Early American Woodworking and Pioneer skills. Sunday, December 30, 2012. Dutch Style Tool Chest. I've wanted to make a better toolbox to store my eighteenth century tools in, but I couldn't decide on the design until the other day when I saw the one Christopher Schwarz posted on his blog. It’s a Dutch style chest that I've seen before in Jim Tolpin’s Toolbox Book. By the way happy New Year! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I hope you enjoy my blog. View my complete profile. North Atlantic Archaeological Collaborative. Cape Cod’s Most Interesting Man. He once led the California Highway Patrol on a 3-county chase at the end of which the officer bought him an Arbys Roast beef. He told US Senator Edward Kennedy to get a real job while they stood side by side on the half-deck of The Mayflower. He schooled famed archaeologist/anthropologist James Deetz. P.S.I. | BLUE OAK

https://blueoakblog.wordpress.com/2015/08/06/p-s-i

Or, Pounding Shingles In. There’s been an inflated amount of talk. Round these parts concerning The Ideal Gas Law, a despotic and over-compensating commissioner, and the handling of balls. And though we vacillate between disgust and delirium, we’ve kept our game-face on as we huddle up at The ol’ Hatch Mill. As is our want, we strap the roof before shingling. This allows for air flow beneath the red cedar and makes for a longer life. It also sends us on a trippy 70’s flashback! This report was brought to...

The Clueless Woodwright: Woodwright Workout

http://thecluelesswoodwright.blogspot.com/2014/06/woodwright-workout.html

Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Seeing as I am an overambitious, yet obessively compulsive, woodworker I recently found myself in an uphill battle with a massive slab of oak. The bench in the shop at work has been used and abused for as long as I have been alive. Word on the street is that it hasn't even been flattened since it was first built.so I took the liberty of flattening it myself. 20 years of grime, sweat, and I am pretty sure some blood. I finished up going with the grain (as best I could) and planing ...

Available via Lost Art Press link: http:/ blog.lostartpress.com/2013/05/13/free-download-joseph-moxons-mechanick-exercises/. Thanks, Chris Schwarz. I mean, who HASN’T pulled this trick at a kegger or an office X-mas party a few times? What a novel use for ear-wax! They’re wicked easy to take for granted. But have you ever REALLY thought about the humble nail? Will teach ...

The Clueless Woodwright: The Sweet Smell of Success

http://thecluelesswoodwright.blogspot.com/2014/02/the-sweet-smell-of-success.html

Wednesday, February 5, 2014. The Sweet Smell of Success. After many broken spoons. And plenty of.explicit words, I finally finished my first spoon. The proportions are a little off, the whole thing twisted like a corkscrew when it dried, and the bowl is a tad bit lop sided, but I feel like the proud parent of an ugly baby. I chickened out from adding chip carving to the handle. I left the knife marks on, I think it gives more character. I learned a few key things in my quest for a wooden spoon:. I was an...

Log Replacement for Circa 1930 Cabin. This week I’ve been repairing a log cabin for the Antelope County Museum in Neligh, Nebraska. I was told that the cabin was built as a playhouse for a prominent man’s daughter in the 1930’s. If you’re in the area this museum is a great place to visit and has a lot of int...
