Bully Pulpit: Hymns & Hymn Writers: No, Not One by David R. Kenney
http://drkenney.blogspot.com/2015/07/hymns-hymn-writers-no-not-one-by-david.html
Saturday, July 25, 2015. Hymns and Hymn Writers: No, Not One by David R. Kenney. This song has at least two familiar titles—“No, Not One” and “There’s Not A Friend”. The words were by Johnson Oatman, Jr. and the tune was made by George C. Hugg. It has been an easy song to learn and sing for several years. I can recall singing it from the days of my childhood to the point that I could probably lead it without the hymnbook if I had too. Johnson Oatman, Jr. (1856-1922), Lyricist. He died September 25, 1922 ...

Saturday, July 25, 2015. Hymns and Hymn Writers: What A Friend We Have In Jesus by David R. Kenney. Eric Clapton, the famed Blues guitarist, once stated about the Blues:. 8220;My definition of Blues is that it's a musical form which is very disciplined and structured coupled with a state of mind, and you can have either of those things but it's the two together that make it what it is. And you need to be a student for one, and a human being for the other, but those things alone don't do it.”. He was know...

Bully Pulpit: Hymns & Hymn Writers: Can He Depend On You by David R. Kenney
http://drkenney.blogspot.com/2015/07/hymns-hymn-writers-can-he-depend-on-you.html
Saturday, July 25, 2015. Hymns and Hymn Writers: Can He Depend On You by David R. Kenney. There are incidents in our nation’s history that make for very sad reading. As I was in Wall Drug, SD, I noticed a map of our Nation but it had Indian tribes distributed throughout it. I also noticed on the roadmap, as we traveled, when we were in and out of Indian Reservations. My mind thought about an earlier time. The family from which the writer of this hymn came from was of the Choctaw Indians. There were sever...

Bully Pulpit: HOW COULD THIS NATION’S MORAL CODE HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED ANY PLAINER? by David R. Kenney
http://drkenney.blogspot.com/2015/07/how-could-this-nations-moral-code-have.html
Sunday, July 5, 2015. HOW COULD THIS NATION’S MORAL CODE HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED ANY PLAINER? By David R. Kenney. July 4, 2015 is this nation’s 239. For the first time in my life, I did not feel like celebrating one of my favorite holidays. I still love our country, but sometimes there is a time to hang your head down and pray. This year’s Independence Day is how I felt—hang my head down and pray for our nation. It is a bit lower; however, the number is higher than I anticipated. Country and the world!
