An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement: Chess Lessons!
http://fussylizard.blogspot.com/2005/11/chess-lessons.html
An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement. Record of my experience in undertaking Michael de la Maza's "Rapid Chess Improvement" program. Wednesday, November 09, 2005. Boy, I'm just barely squeaking by on this "one post a month" requirement to be an active knight. The big news is that I'm trying out chess lessons with NM Dan Heisman. Why did I decide to take lessons? What does all this have to do with Mr. Heisman? Anyway, I decided to give it a shot so I'll let everyone know how it goes. I play two slow g...

An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement. Record of my experience in undertaking Michael de la Maza's "Rapid Chess Improvement" program. Wednesday, April 19, 2006. It’s been a while since my last posting, but I’ve actually been fairly active chess-wise. I got back from my month-long business trip to Detroit two weeks ago and jumped right into my first tournament! I’m playing in the Austin Chess Club. S April Standard Swiss. The format is one game each Sunday night for four weeks. Anyway, my preliminary p...

An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement. Record of my experience in undertaking Michael de la Maza's "Rapid Chess Improvement" program. Sunday, November 13, 2005. Yesterday I had my first chess lesson with NM Dan Heisman. Overall I would say the lesson was interesting, if not a bit insightful. In general I was not expecting too much since it was only an hour, and I was certainly not disappointed. Overall I enjoyed it and found Dan pleasant to work with. So what did we do? An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement: More Lessons
http://fussylizard.blogspot.com/2006/02/more-lessons.html
An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement. Record of my experience in undertaking Michael de la Maza's "Rapid Chess Improvement" program. Sunday, February 26, 2006. Just thought I'd do a quick post since it has been a while. I think I've done four more lessons w/ Dan Heisman since my last post. Here's a brief re-cap:. I found it interesting that his analysis was not nearly as ordered as I would have thought, but it was still a lot more structured than mine. For example, at the start. I moved a piece twice...

An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement: Lesson Three and a Chess Club
http://fussylizard.blogspot.com/2006/01/lesson-three-and-chess-club.html
An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement. Record of my experience in undertaking Michael de la Maza's "Rapid Chess Improvement" program. Wednesday, January 18, 2006. Lesson Three and a Chess Club. In general I've not been so good at consistently analyzing my opponent's moves, so I thought of a framework to help my checking process. Every time my opponent moves, I should ask:. What is his piece doing now that it wasn't doing before? What was his piece doing on its old square that it is not doing now?

An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement. Record of my experience in undertaking Michael de la Maza's "Rapid Chess Improvement" program. Thursday, June 01, 2006. Has another 4SS tournament this month, so I'm planning on playing in that. There's two sections, 1800 and U1800, so obviously I'll be playing in the latter. I've not been playing much this month, so hopefully I won't be too rusty. :-). Posted by fussylizard @ 5:03 PM. Add your opponents rating. Add 200 for every game won. Hope this helps,. Hi, I...

An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement. Record of my experience in undertaking Michael de la Maza's "Rapid Chess Improvement" program. Monday, June 20, 2005. What a Strange Feeling. What a strange feeling it is to actually be reading. The chess books I've bought over the years. After finishing the MDLM plan I went through Chernev's Logical Chess. And tonight I just finished Snyder's Unbeatable Chess Lessons for Juniors. Snyder's More Unbeatable Chess Lessons for Juniors. The problems instantaneously)&#...

An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement: It's a Conspiracy...
http://fussylizard.blogspot.com/2006/03/its-conspiracy.html
An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement. Record of my experience in undertaking Michael de la Maza's "Rapid Chess Improvement" program. Tuesday, March 07, 2006. I think there is some sort of conspiracy against me playing OTB tournament chess. Let's consider the evidence:. Three tournaments ago: Some work thing came up to where I had to work the weekend, thereby missing the tournament. Most recent: I was hoping to play in the March 4 round SS at the new chess club in Austin. Hi Peter. Whats happening?
