Journal of a Modern Kemetic

Journal of a Modern Kemetic. 20 most recent entries. A hymn to Ra. Going through Maulana Karenga's Maat: The Moral Ideal in Ancient Egypt. And finding much to reflect on. Most of it isn't anything shockingly new, but it's explored in such great detail and with such care that the reading has been an intense and wonderful meditative session every time I've found a few minutes to settle down with the book. Today I found this hymn to Ra, from papyrus Boulaq XVII:. O Ra Your love is in the southern sky,.

Some thoughts on seeking the gods: fyrekat

http://fyrekat.livejournal.com/81192.html

Some thoughts on seeking the gods. I'm currently taking a class on Kemetic religion with some really wonderful people; it's been a great opportunity to review my own experiences and attitudes, and how I arrived at the personal relationships and understandings of Ntjr which I embrace today. One of the things we've been talking about has been our varied experiences in shrine- particularly of the response or seeming lack thereof from Divinity- and it got me to thinking again. But it's not. There are a l...

Eternal Egypt is a gold mine of carefully researched and lovingly,…: fyrekat

http://fyrekat.livejournal.com/83807.html

Eternal Egypt is a gold mine of carefully researched and lovingly, conscientiously presented ritual liturgies for the modern Kemetic reconstructionist. Rarely am I this enthusiastic over a single source, but then again rarely have I found a book which manages to be at the same time academically responsible- with sources cited, and an abundance of footnotes- and presented in an easy-to-read fashion, geared toward the modern practitioner, and with so many practical applications. Post a new comment. We will...

PantheaCon 2010: fyrekat

http://fyrekat.livejournal.com/84213.html

It's not quite over yet, but I'm taking a break from the festivities to revel in some of the wonderful experiences I've had and stuff I've found at the convention so far! It's been great meeting up with Kemetics from near and far, and different styles of practice! However I must admit that the main reason I'm posting today is actually because I have had such uncommonly good luck in the vendor room this year. I have pictures to share! Iron- especially meteoric iron- is an important metal for Stkh! The las...

New books! New calendar!: fyrekat

http://fyrekat.livejournal.com/73914.html

The third volume is on AE mathematics, and I will be picking it up as soon as I can. I have no idea what he had planned for the fourth volume, or if it will ever be released to the public. Has anyone else heard of this scholar, and can you give me your opinion of his books? These will probably go up on my shelves for a while until I finish with the book that I am currently reading. In other news, I finally got around to ordering my Kemetic Calendar. And I am sooo excited about PantheaCon coming up soon!

The Dash Between: December 2007

http://the-dash-between.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 27, 2007. Ah, it's almost the end of the year. I usually do a year in recap, around here, but meh. I'm not quite feeling it. This last year, really, was largely about internal journeys. I think that outwardly, I haven't changed much - if any - but inwardly, my mind is at an entirely different place than it was at the start of the year. Going forward into the new year? Health. That's the theme of next year. Emotional, Physical, Mental, Financial, Spiritual - I want to be a glowi...I sus...

The Dash Between: November 2007

http://the-dash-between.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 29, 2007. No, maybe irritable is the right word. I want to throw a huge temper tantrum, and I've got utterly no reason to do so. Home is wonderful, we get paid tonight, work is - well, it's a pain in my ass, but that's normal, and I'm still not knocked up. I'm considering going to a family doctor, but how many of them do prenatal care, anymore? And then, I'm thinking about the hospitals, in general. This town sucks, seriously, when it comes to hospitals - the one that I've doula'd ...

The Dash Between: W1/D2

http://the-dash-between.blogspot.com/2009/01/w1d2.html

Tuesday, January 6, 2009. C: Find a daily inspiration for blogging/poetry. S: Memorize one morning prayer. P: Create a weekly lunch menu. F: Recreate a penny book. So far, I'm changing. I'm not perfect, but that's not going to happen overnight - but as long as I'm walking in the direction I know I want to go - it's okay. It's not the speed, it's the direction that matters. I think that's it for today's update. Tonight, I want to:. 1) Publish the blog entries. 2) Create a iPod playlist for writing. The re...

The Dash Between: March 2008

http://the-dash-between.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 28, 2008. I wrote this in class yesterday, and I wanted to remember it, and hold onto it, and possibly tattoo it on my ass. The River is infinite - containing all the possibilities of what might be. I cannot reroute or control the river, but I damn sure can paddle my own boat. I'm sure some one else has said it better. But it makes sense to me. And another quote I'd like to hold onto. Getting want I want does NOT. Drr, and how obvious is that, but seriously. Thursday, March 27, 2008. Exactl...

The Dash Between: Changes

http://the-dash-between.blogspot.com/2008/04/changes.html

Sunday, April 20, 2008. I want to be sure, I want to remind myself, that even if my pregnancy, birth, conception, whatever, don't go the way that I would most prefer them to go - the research, study, and thought I have put into making the choice is always the wise way of doing things. Very simply. Even if I'm wrong - at least be wrong, and partially informed. Or wrong, and fully informed. Or right, and partially/fully informed. Just - don't be ignorant. And the Yale Student? And most days, I feel moderat...

The Dash Between: February 2008

http://the-dash-between.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Friday, February 22, 2008. Okay, this is just getting ridiculous. I'm on the VERGE of tears at work because Twin1 on my team is doing her usual thing of taking over anything she touches and excluding everyone but Twin2, and I was dreadfully embarassed when someone came to me for an update, and I had that 'caught in the headlights' look. Do I think she's doing it on purpose? I don't know - she's always been like this (and always the loudest one complaining about how BUSY she is) so no, I don't think she's.

The Dash Between: Polishing my Pretty

http://the-dash-between.blogspot.com/2008/05/polishing-my-pretty.html

Friday, May 2, 2008. I'm not a bad looking woman, overall. Some days, I feel prettier than I do on other days - but I think that's just how things are. However, I've realized that there are several minor things that I can do - that I would actually enjoy doing - that will make those 'I look good. Days pop up much more frequently. It's a logical extension of my hair obsession - starting from the top, and trickling it's way down. Nice, very nice. So, yeah. I think that I've got the body stuff down. Prefera...

The Dash Between: October 2007

http://the-dash-between.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 30, 2007. A rather morbid, yet interesting thought struck me, spurned by the discussion of waxing ovaries. I have interesting OLF. *laugh*. Anyhow, I went off, wondering what an ovary really looks like. And I realized, all the pictures would be bloody and - violent - somehow - not looking at the organs themselves as things of rich color and beauty, but instead as either dead or diseased things. Dreams into reality. isn't that the real job of this life? Gah I'm babbling (see, new bloglove!

The Dash Between: Glow/Gratitude/Green

http://the-dash-between.blogspot.com/2008/04/glowgratitudegreen.html

Wednesday, April 30, 2008. Things have been - exceptionally good. I think it's a combination of several things - the weather has changed (finally), I've become more authentic (really, I have), and I've decided to appreciate life more. It's amazing how little shifts in your mental mood can just ripple out and carry on for days/weeks - I don't know what it is, I just know I feel good. And I'm not worried about feeling good, I'm not concerned - and - it's really nice. So, he put me on 1700mg of Metformin, a...

http://the-dash-between.blogspot.com/2009/01/w1d4.html

Thursday, January 8, 2009. Got up this morning and broke out my Buddist meditation cards I got at last Yule, finally. It's a fabulous resource to shape my meditation. DH asked me why I was getting up early, and I shared it with him. C: Wrote the WOD blog, already. Have decided that I will allow myself some leeway, and give myself a requirement of 7K words a week, that way, I can crank it out on the weekends, if need be. I'm a bit distracted at work. F: Found a way to create a free penny book.
