G4BVY's Blog: 50MHz Trophy 2014
http://g4bvy.blogspot.com/2014/06/50mhz-trophy-2014.html
Tuesday, 24 June 2014. OK - enough of the logistics - how about the contest? Well here is the main antenna system on its 36 foot mast under construction. Remember that this is single operator so that is me holding the antenna up while taking the photograph? I was hearing completely different signals on the two antenna systems. Yes - they were pointing in the same direction - not! One was east and the other one was west! The Es lasted for about two and a half hours and there were two, or maybe even three,...

G4BVY's Blog: October 2013
http://g4bvy.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 29 October 2013. Portable in the back garden (again! As conditions had been humming on 28MHz throughout the week, I decided to concentrate on that band. While the usual doublet antenna sort of works, could I do better within the constraints of time available and space? So this time the 20m Spiderpole (not at full extension! On longer paths it was 2 to 3 S points better than the doublet. On nearer European signals it was better on most signals. The band was full from 28.2 to 29.2 MHz....I spent t...

G4VXE.COM: Raspberry Pi 2 ordered
http://g4vxe.blogspot.com/2015/02/raspberry-pi-2-ordered.html
Amateur Radio - or at least, my version of it. Monday, February 02, 2015. Raspberry Pi 2 ordered. I was excited to see the Raspberry Pi 2 announced today. One is on the way. It will be interesting to see how it works out - particularly for some of the more heavy duty apps I have tried in the past such as FLDigi. A new version of the OS compiled for the new processor is required and can be downloaded here. More news when it arrives! Never used FLDIGI before but working on BPSK31 on 40m RX a treat! Julian,...

G4VXE.COM: Raspberry Pi2 up and running; DUMP1090, Piaware, GPredict as well as browsing the web
http://g4vxe.blogspot.com/2015/02/raspberry-pi2-up-and-running-dump1090.html
Amateur Radio - or at least, my version of it. Saturday, February 07, 2015. Raspberry Pi2 up and running; DUMP1090, Piaware, GPredict as well as browsing the web. The Raspberry Pi2 was delivered very quickly - thank you CPC! However, owing to a bit of silliness on my part I didn't get it running until today. I'd assumed - always a dangerous thing - that the Pi2 used an SD card for its storage, like the Pi. Oh no it doesn't! Then I installed RTLSDR and tested it, without any problems. I installed DUMP...

G4VXE.COM: 70MHz cumulative - and more SSTV from the ISS
http://g4vxe.blogspot.com/2015/02/70mhz-cumulative-and-more-sstv-from-iss.html
Amateur Radio - or at least, my version of it. Sunday, February 22, 2015. 70MHz cumulative - and more SSTV from the ISS. Randomly, I was browsing through Facebook this morning and I noticed Paul G4RRA say that he was about to drive up to the site for the RSGB 70MHz cumulatives. The keyer on the NR4SC's timing is just a little different to the others I have here and it takes a moment to adjust my sending to suit). What was particularly nice was that the operator at G4TSW was Paul, G4RRA! So, enjoyable to ...

G4VXE.COM: What I've been playing with over Christmas and New Year (anyone want a nice FT1000MP?)
http://g4vxe.blogspot.com/2015/01/what-ive-been-playing-with-over.html
Amateur Radio - or at least, my version of it. Saturday, January 03, 2015. What I've been playing with over Christmas and New Year (anyone want a nice FT1000MP? With my return to work on the horizon on Monday, I've been thinking about what a nice holiday I've had. Although I've had to do a bit of work here and there, it's not been too onerous which has been welcome. Fun to play with for something different! I've upgraded the station logging program, uLog from M0PZT. Who has a new release out. Which is a ...

G4BVY's Blog: December 2013
http://g4bvy.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 18 December 2013. Excellent – time for a beer or two. Propagation predictions indicated that the band would open at about 0700 and die at about 1800. So on Saturday morning I was on the band at 0715 and had my first QSO. When I called the second station the computer crashed – and I mean died – no blue screen of death – just dead! I think that I have now remembered why I hate HF SSB contests! Just when I was homing in on my self imposed QSO target, the band fell off a cliff and died. US States ...
