Crystal Blue Dreams: A decade too late? In defence of Astonishia Story
http://crystal-blue-dreams.blogspot.com/2013/05/a-decade-too-late-in-defence-of.html
Musings, rants and misty eyed retrospectives on (mainly) video game related subjects. Wednesday, 8 May 2013. A decade too late? In defence of Astonishia Story. Astonishia Story is a RPG/SRPG developed by Korean company; Sonnori. It was initially released on the PC in 1994 and then in 2002 it was given a remake (also on PC), which was ported to the GP32 handheld and eventually Sony's PSP. Impressive if a bit generic character portraits. The 2D visuals, while looking somewhat dated are beautifully drawn an...

Crystal Blue Dreams: SFC box art number 6: Super Mario Kart
http://crystal-blue-dreams.blogspot.com/2013/04/sfc-box-art-number-6-super-mario-kart.html
Musings, rants and misty eyed retrospectives on (mainly) video game related subjects. Saturday, 27 April 2013. SFC box art number 6: Super Mario Kart. Full name: Sūpā Mario Kāto. I think the biggest tribute that I could pay to Super Mario Kart is that even though it was released some 20 plus years ago, it still remains the most fun I've ever had playing video games. And I honestly can't see anything displacing it. Posted by Paul Darbyshire. Location: Liverpool, Merseyside, UK. View my complete profile.

Musings, rants and misty eyed retrospectives on (mainly) video game related subjects. Sunday, 19 May 2013. SFC box art number 4: Super Valis IV. Full name: Sūpā Varisu Akaki Tsuki no Otome. We're now very much at the business end of the countdown, and into the realm of very special box art. I certainly hope the next few pieces don't disappoint! Posted by Paul Darbyshire. Location: Liverpool, Merseyside, UK. 19 May 2013 at 18:55. 19 May 2013 at 19:47. I do like the series, but I think the games suffer fro...

lunatic obscurity: April 2014
http://lunaticobscurity.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, 26 April 2014. Elevator Action Old and New (Game Boy Advance). So obviously, everyone knows of the Elevator Action series, probably through the amazing arcade game Elevator Action Returns, but I think this entry into the series has gone mostly unplayed, released as it was, only in Japan, and apparently not in great quantities. Brutally hard, fiddly to control and moves like it's set at the bottom of a treacle ocean. Labels: game boy advance. Monday, 21 April 2014. Aesthetically, the game is exc...

lunatic obscurity: Go! Go! Cosmo Cops! (DS)
http://lunaticobscurity.blogspot.com/2015/07/go-go-cosmo-cops-ds.html
Friday, 31 July 2015. Is a game built around a gimmick, and that gimmick is pretty similar to the PS2 game Chaindive: your characters have grappling hooks which can be attached to dots around the stages (though in this game, the dots look different to match the theme of each set of stages, which is nice). lunatic obscurity: September 2014
http://lunaticobscurity.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 30 September 2014. Fighting Masters (Mega Drive). For starters, there are only two buttons used, along with the d-pad: and attack button and a jump button. As well as the simple control scheme, there are also no combination attacks or special moves in the game: each character only has single strikes and throws, with throws doing massive damage and apparently being the cornerstone of the game. In summary, Fighting Masters is no rival for what we'd now consider a "proper" fighting game, but it is ...

lunatic obscurity: August 2015
http://lunaticobscurity.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, 27 August 2015. Though it does have some good points, and it is an admirable effort, I don't really recommend playin Thunder Hoop. Apparently it has two sequels that aren't yet emulated in MAME. I'd definitely be interested in playing them, as TH does show potential, and it'd be nice to see if it was ever realised. Links to this post. Saturday, 22 August 2015. Simple DS Series vol. 39: The Shouboutai (DS). I definitely recommend giving The Shouboutai a look, even though there are plenty of 3D s...

DS90Gamer: Recent Purchases #5 inc. a crazy new year purchase...
http://ds90gamer.blogspot.com/2017/01/recent-purchases-5-inc-crazy-new-year.html
Sunday, 1 January 2017. Recent Purchases #5 inc. a crazy new year purchase. First of all, I hope everybody had a great Christmas and a happy New Year. Let's make sure that 2017 is a great one. I haven't posted about my purchases for a long while now (the recent Playstation Vita acquisition aside) and that's because there simply haven't been. Any I may post my personal thoughts on why I've slowed down and sold off a good chunk of my collection but that will be for another time. For this. Specific characte...
