Ruby on Rails, C#, .NET, book reviews, film reviews, mind hacks, Wing Chun and the occasional personal bit. Tuesday, June 05, 2007. Is NET or Java dying? Are C# and .NET losing ground as Martin Fowler. Or is Java's market share dropping. And what about the Australian market in particular? Here's what I've been able to find. Which technologies have the most demand for people? Which claims to search "millions of jobs from thousands of job sites", but I suspect may have a USA focus:. NET" or "dot net".

Life, Kids and Software Development. Friday, September 20, 2013. I have a bunch of log files in a directory on my SDCard on my Android device. I want to pull them off the devices but you can't use ADB to pull multiple files - so this is a command to do that:. Adb shell ls /some/dir awk '{print ". 0}' tr ' r' ' ' xargs -n1 adb pull. Ok break that down: here is what's going on:. This outputs the files in the path but just the file name. Awk '{ print ". This changes the file names to full path names.

Life, Kids and Software Development. Monday, June 23, 2014. Fears in general are base on rumors and a fundamental lack of understanding. Hopefully by the end of this post all of our fears will be resolved and we can move forward with Core Data with rumors dispelled and a solid understanding of what we are doing. There is actually a large amount of very technical (and scary) documentation on how to do this correctly:. Take the time now to learn the versioning process from the beginning, otherwise when you...

Life, Kids and Software Development. Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Learning a new programming language can be frustrating. Some more so than others, Python for example is pretty easy, there are a few oddities but it's easy enough. In contrast Objective-C for me was difficult but now that I "get it" I prefer it over most other languages. Swift seems to be following the Objective-C pattern, apparently I'm still not quite "getting it". Or int[][] grid = . Count: rows * columns, repeatedValue: ". But since ...

Life, Kids and Software Development. Tuesday, February 21, 2012. SSH Public Key Authentication. Here is a link to a super simple explanation of how to set this up: http:/ www.petefreitag.com/item/532.cfm. In case it goes away here is the content copied and pasted - this is not my work it is from Pete Freitag :. Setting up public key authentication over SSH. Every time I want to setup public key authentication over SSH, I have to look it up, and I've never found a simple guide, so here's mine. View my com...

Life, Kids and Software Development. Wednesday, January 08, 2014. 2 weeks of vacation. Went to Colorado over the holidays, had a great time skiing. This is a view from one of the windows in the lodge we stayed at. When I finally came back to work I realized I forgot about this sad little guy:. Not sure if he will recover. Life, Kids and Software Development. Monday, July 28, 2014. Data Persistence With AppEngine. When you are using AppEngine, there are a handful of choices to store your data. Once Google introduced Cloud SQL the choices just increased. How can you figure out which framework to use? I'm a pretty big fan of the Cloud Storage so that limited my choices just a bit - but I still had a choice between JDO or JPA. How and why should you decide one of these frameworks over the other? Life, Kids and Software Development. Wednesday, December 05, 2012. Core Data Helper Macro. I pretty much love core data. It can be frustrating sometimes but for the most part it's pretty awesome. One of the crazy things about it is if you get an error and try to figure things out by doing this:. Error saving User: %@". You get a good error - something like "Operation could not be completed: cocoa error code 1560". Not very helpful. I just stumbled across this little nugget of information. Core Data Helpe...
