Gardening With Nature: Rose pruning season

http://gardeningwithnature.blogspot.com/2014/02/rose-pruning-season.html

Welcome to my zone 9a habitat garden near Houston, Texas. Tuesday, February 11, 2014. Have you pruned your roses yet? This is traditionally the time of year when the winter pruning of roses is accomplished here close to the Gulf Coast. We think of Valentine's Day as our deadline for getting that necessary chore done. Of course, in the real world of gardening, we are not quite. What do we need to accomplish by pruning? I would maintain that there are at least five goals that we need to achieve. If there i...

Welcome to my zone 9a habitat garden near Houston, Texas. Thursday, August 29, 2013. Gardening for the Birds by George Adams: A review. My rating: 4 of 5 stars. In his introduction to his book, George Adams writes:. That is a succinct summary of the philosophy behind this book and the philosophy behind habitat gardening in general. It is one that I subscribe to and try to put in practice in my garden. A free copy of this book was provided to me by the publisher for the purposes of this review. No oth...

Our Ever-Changing Landscape: October 2014

http://anastasiasgarden.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 9, 2014. Creating and Awaiting Opportunities: Timing Counts. Here in the Houston, Texas area, as in many other warmer climes, it is not the harbinger of cold, dark days. On the contrary, Fall is the herald of gentler, kinder weather, a time when heat and vicious insects are less intense. We've been preparing for our fall garden. My new planters box is finally filled with a rich mix of garden soil. A few before (top two) and afters of one particular area:. Some cool weather plants, like ...

Our Ever-Changing Landscape: Sowing Seeds on Top of my Head

http://anastasiasgarden.blogspot.com/2014/12/sowing-seeds-on-top-of-my-head.html

Monday, December 1, 2014. Sowing Seeds on Top of my Head. I hope that everyone enjoyed a wonderful and bountiful Thanksgiving. I'm not sure that "bounty" is a relative term, but it can certainly seem so in the eyes of the beholder. And what we behold often - usually(? Depends upon our state of mind. Can you recall a time that you were not as thankful as you should be? How about distinctly ungrateful and graceless? How much time, money, and heart should we invest in the landscape? Yet I cannot not. Garden...

Lucy's in the Garden. Friday, May 25, 2012. Recently, we had a pair of Northern Cardinals build a nest in our garden. The hatchlings have fledged, but the family is still spotted daily in the garden. Here is a series of photos I took of them at the feeder. I have a hanging bird feeder in the. In it I usually place red grapes and whole peanuts. The Cardinal family loves the grapes. The babies get very excited when they see their Papa on the feeder. They always want more! May 25, 2012 at 5:40 PM. Happy to ...

Our Ever-Changing Landscape: A Short Vacation Break

http://anastasiasgarden.blogspot.com/2014/08/a-short-vacation-break.html

Friday, August 29, 2014. A Short Vacation Break. I didn't take nearly as many photos as I should have/could have/might have. We were just too busy snorkeling and fishing and were hardly ever on dry land during the day. But I have returned from vacation with a renewed energy and interest in my garden. I also have a new appreciation for its diminutive size; it affords us more time to enjoy other activities as well. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Our Ever-Changing Landscape: July 2014

http://anastasiasgarden.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 28, 2014. Of course, I had to decide just what those might be. The short list: a prayer garden, antique roses, herbs, a lemon tree, a sweet bay tree, native flowers, a gardenia, and a vegetable patch. The first thing we added was a prayer or Mary garden. I was able to incorporate both roses and herbs and will continue to add and amend as time passes. I'll be back soon. I have a lot to show, tell, and ask! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
