Ruby Hills Organics: August 2012

Friday, August 17, 2012. Witches Brew or Sustenance! Good broth will resurrect the dead". We've just done a trial run. Our original girls that we started out with 2 1/2 years ago - we culled 100 of them and had them processed. Reason for culling? Their eggs are large and wonky and somewhat unpredictable. For a backyard - they're still perfect - and probably even better as there's a lot of double yolkers in there! Well, out of the 100 we're doing a few trial runs with 25 going to two Organic Butchers and ...

Saturday, June 16, 2012. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Welcome to Ruby Hills Organics! We are thrilled to share with you our experiences on our stunningly gorgeous, coastal 85 acre farm at Walkerville in South Gippsland, Victoria. We have about 2000 laying hens that are free to graze and laze about in the sun, wind, and rain - whatever it may be. We also have 3 Maremmas, 2 Border Collies, and a Cavocker named Nelly. The Maremmas are the guardians of the hens and "hoodlums" (the young chickens).

Ruby Hills Organics: December 2014

Monday, December 22, 2014. This time of year there's nothing more lovely than pouring warm sweet custard over your favourite pudding or fruit! I'm sharing my custard that I perfected about 2 years ago. In fact, last week I made EIGHT litres of it for our little school's Christmas dinner - worked a treat warmed in the crockpot. I've made this before using coconut sugar - and it's got a real butterscotch flavour to it. 1 1/2 cups pure cream. 3 1/2 cups full fat milk (I use creamy raw milk). Welcome to Ruby...

Ruby Hills Organics: future generations
http://rubyhillsorganics.blogspot.com/2013/11/future-generations.html
Sunday, November 24, 2013. A morning ride to Cranbourne to pick up our 400 new lovely mini ladies. Our babies are packed so beautifully and safely in these perfect little boxes - they are warm and cozy and happy - we haven't lost any of these ones in transit ever (which can easily happen as they're only a day old). My two youngest and I pick them up and have a very cheep cheep cheepy ride back home to their new home for the next few weeks. Fingers crossed that we'll be able to buy our farm this year.

Saturday, July 14, 2012. The cows in the paddock behind the house. Blissful evening! Our current wwoofer - Janine - with one of her babies she is helping to raise. She's doing a marvelous job - and they are now out kicking up their heels in the paddock - still getting their warm milk in the morning and arvo - of course! So curious and so noisy at this stage! We're having a great winter - always muddy - but managing well so far. Hope the sun is shining on you. Monday, July 2, 2012. Thanks to all of our lo...

Eat More Vegies: September 2010
http://eatmorevegies.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 29, 2010. A whole lot of new stuff. Firstly, apologies for the lack of interesting posts - I have just started a new job and life is hectic. A few other things have happened too - my regular vegie delivery company Garden Organics. Has decided to stop their delivery service! Again Last time I used them I found them to be slightly less in quality and quantity. With a fridge full of fresh veg, I sat down with one of my new favourite cookbooks - The Vegan Table. I love that it's now a na...
