GardenRambler: October 2014

http://gardenrambler.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 21, 2014. How many alpacas fit in a cargo van? Ever wonder how to move alpacas? I found an answer: in a cargo van. We moved our guys to the farm last weekend in my step-dad Pete's cargo van - all SEVEN! All 7 of the boys are "cushing" as we drive on I-70 through Kansas City. My co-pilot took a selfie :-). Jeremy and the alpacas in the van driving through the city. A big THANK YOU goes out to Pete for loaning us the van and following us back to the farm in the truck! Which, of course, tur...

GardenRambler: Bad storm - tested our erosion control

http://gardenrambler.blogspot.com/2015/07/bad-storm-tested-our-erosion-control.html

Sunday, July 12, 2015. Bad storm - tested our erosion control. It was a relative success, but the small terraces I built were not adequate. Early last week we had tornado sirens, high winds and 5 inches of rain - all in a few hours! Jeremy and I watched literal waterfalls pour over the retaining wall near the front porch. And the "dry" creek bed was a fast-running, full creek. Below the blueberry hedge the water washed dirt all the way across our gravel drive. They have a tremendous taproot. So this ...

GardenRambler: Rain, rain, rain...

http://gardenrambler.blogspot.com/2015/06/rain-rain-rain.html

Sunday, June 7, 2015. Rain, rain, rain. It has been a very wet Spring here in eastern Kansas. Luckily, Brent and I aren't trying to get crops harvested and/or planted like all the farmers we know. It's been a real struggle for them. Our biggest struggle with this weather has been staying cheerful while the weeds take over the new lawn and the chickens grow like weeds! The rain drenched deck. Walt standing by the feeder in the middle of the "spacious" barn. We also expanded their pasture. I posted a f...

GardenRambler: March 2015

http://gardenrambler.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 30, 2015. Taxes, blueberries and apiary prep. Last week we picked up our blueberry bushes and got an area ready for the bees that will come this week. The blueberry hedge (in the making). My picture of the blueberry bushes is a little underwhelming. It was a lot of work! Apiary for our new bees. Meanwhile, Brent was fixing a very important fixture that had started leaking - the kitchen faucet. Amazingly, we have already had some equipment failures in our new home. We are chalking it...Satur...

GardenRambler: February 2015

http://gardenrambler.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Now we are really home. It's official. Today Happy Apple's Farm is our only home. The Shawnee house has a new owner and all our possessions are here - well, kinda. Literally car full after car full of things were donated. And it feels good to know that most of those donations will be used. In spite of all that , we still have two rather large storage units of stuff that we aren't sure what to do about. And there are boxes and bags of things all over our new home that hav...

Primum non nocere

In Latin it means care. The Strength of the Human Spirit. Psychological literature calls it the anniversary reaction and defines it as an individual’s response to unresolved grief resulting from significant losses. The anniversary reaction can involve several days or even weeks of anxiety, anger, nightmares, flashbacks, depression, or fear. On a more positive note, the anniversary of a disaster or traumatic event also can provide an opportunity for emotional healing. A rain drop to the ocean of time.

Saturday, March 5, 2016. Re-cap fall and winter 2015. Well, obviously, I have been so enthralled with the ease of posting on Instagram that I've ignored my good ol' blog. So, for those of you who don't follow me on Instagram, here's a recap of the last months of 2015. My time was taken up by continuing the development of the native and edible plant gardens through the rest of the summer. (I enjoyed the "fruits" of my labor A LOT). Our raspberry hedge was a big producer and picking was enjoyed by all of us.

From the home and garden

From the home and garden. A blog about gardens and a gardener who has relocated south from the snow zone. Tuesday, September 16, 2008. Does anyone know how to get new links onto gardenweb blogs? My blog is moving and I really want to link the new one into gardenweb. The link to add your blog, at the bottom of the bloglist comes back undeliverable, questions via the 'contact us' are ignored and the whole list is turning into a shambles with multiple blog listings. Can anyone help here? To help visitors id...
