Gardens at Rabbit Ridge

Gardens at Rabbit Ridge. A journal of my gardening experiences in a zone 4 Minnesota home. Thursday, July 16, 2015. July Bloom Day (a day late). It's the second most wonderful time of the year. Christmas is still the most wonderful time and I celebrated Christmas in July with Hallmark's ornament debut weekend and holiday movies on the Hallmark channel last week. Anyway, I love this time of the year when the garden is in full growing mode and full of beautiful blooms. Visions in Red astilbe. Terracotta Cr...

Gardens at Rabbit Ridge: May 2012

http://www.gardensatrabbitridge.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Gardens at Rabbit Ridge. A journal of my gardening experiences in a zone 4 Minnesota home. Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Tree Peony-about four years old, second time blooming with one flower. Not exactly blooms but love these birds that congregated at the feeders one afternoon last week-they do add color to the garden. Not a bloom either but my mother's day gift from my son-an airplant in a sphere. Tiny primrose flowers in clay planter that sits outside year around. Veronica G. Varigatum. Wednesday, May 2, 2012.

Gardens at Rabbit Ridge. A journal of my gardening experiences in a zone 4 Minnesota home. Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Late for Bloom Day. Quickfire' and 'Pink Diamond' Hydrangeas Quickfire is the pinker one since it begins blooming earlier in the season. Pink Diamond was later blooming than usual due to the delay in Spring's arrival this year. Not sure which Phlox this might be. A fall favorite, Toadlily, looking rather orchid like. Love the fall Sedum blooms. Rosa 'Lady Elsie May' still blooming.

Gardens at Rabbit Ridge. A journal of my gardening experiences in a zone 4 Minnesota home. Wednesday, June 13, 2012. My all time favorite- 'William Baffin' Rose, special too because my dad's name was William. Love the uniqueness of each flower. Always a great bloomer. Sorry, I'm not sure what the other three honeysuckles are. I think this is 'Mandarin'. I always have to have a cuphea in this watering can. This year I found this pretty pink one instead of the bright red and purple ones. Fairy dish garden-...

http://www.gardensatrabbitridge.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Gardens at Rabbit Ridge. A journal of my gardening experiences in a zone 4 Minnesota home. Monday, June 15, 2015. Not a bloom but my special Mother's day announcement gift from my son and his wife. I will be a first time grandma this December! William Baffin', my favorite rose. Bloomstruck' hydrangea(one of the Endless Summer series). Made it through it's first winter and came up with many blooms coming. Yay! One of 4 honeysuckles on the back fence, not sure of all the names but blooming well this year.

Gardens at Rabbit Ridge: March 2012

http://www.gardensatrabbitridge.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Gardens at Rabbit Ridge. A journal of my gardening experiences in a zone 4 Minnesota home. Friday, March 23, 2012. Forsythia in full bloom over a month early! Pink Frost' Hellebores which spent the winter in the garage as it's a zone 5 variety. Autumn fern that I stashed in garage over winter. Pot of mini hostas also stored in garage-doesn't look like much now but happy there's signs of green there. Pasque flowers showing color amidst dried foliage leftovers. Front yard before cleaning.

Suburban Homesteading in Minnesota. We like to celebrate creative activities, so we’re giving ourselves some space to do that. First item: Mutti crocheted this queen size bedspread around the time she was training to become a nurse. It is still in excellent shape! The rest of the items have captions only to save space. Suburban Homesteading in Minnesota. Congratulations Clean Water Portland! May 29, 2013. Portland Oregon has voted against fluoridating their water. I didn’t use to think the small amount of fluoride in water mattered until I read information on the Fluoride Action Network (FAN) site, and heard expert testimony by leading scientists and medical professionals. Suburban Homesteading in Minnesota. We were inspired by the Urban Ton Project in St. Paul Minnesota, and thought it would be fun to track the pounds of produce that grows in our yard this year. I’m trying out a widget from the Ticker Factory to track the total. I set the goal for 2,000 pounds (short ton) out of sheer optimism. I’d prefer a simple pedometer type on the main page, as this one is too wide to be placed there- but…this one is free. Archive: Pounds of Produce 2011. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Suburban Homesteading in Minnesota. Be Sun Savvy Contest – September 2012. 2012 in review →. 900 lbs and a New Solar Oven! November 23, 2012. We reached 900 lbs. The first week of November. That’s 100 lbs shy of half a ton! It’s several hundred pounds more than last year, and we’ve still got a few sparse broccoli, carrots, cabbage, onions and beets to pick. There aren’t many of them though, and it’s a good thing as we just got an unexpected overnight snow. This entry was posted in Alt Energy. You are com...

Suburban Homesteading in Minnesota. Congratulations Clean Water Portland! May 29, 2013. I encourage everyone to watch FAN’s “10 Facts” video. I won’t expound on them here, but it does apply to our food supply. I was very surprised to learn that Americans are likely taking in harmful levels of fluoride through diet and medicines. This includes public water, products made with public water, and products made with pesticides that are made with fluoride. Not to mention many medicines. So, just when this star...
