“Double Dutch” audax

Software inspection and the Heartbleed bug. Around the fens in a north-easterly. River Nene (old course) near Benwick. 29 km. Binnimoor Fen, east of March. 44 km. Martin Malins has been organizing the Double Dutch. 200 km audax for four years now. I rode the first edition back in 2011. Near the Fen Drayton lakes I was passed by Nick Jackson. I jumped on his wheel, but he was doing a steady 35 km/h and in less than a mile he had shaken me off and ridden away into the distance! A couple of kilometres later...

Software inspection and the Heartbleed bug

Software inspection and the Heartbleed bug. Systematic use of software inspection could have fixed the Heartbleed bug. Without having to find it first. Since 2005, when a train crashes in the UK, a professional body of investigators the Rail Accident Investigation Branch. There is nothing like this for computer security incidents. Millions of sysadmin-hours have been spent dealing with the fallout of the Heartbleed bug. But what are the lessons we should learn? You might carry out an analysis like, this ...

The ping that wouldn’t die

http://garethrees.org/2015/08/07/ping

Emacs/Perforce integration: a retrospective. The ping that wouldn’t die. It was Friday afternoon at the customer site. The unluckily numbered and long unsolved issue 13 caught my eye:. Issue 13: Can't interrupt a command with control-C. I couldn’t remember the address of our web site, so I typed ping www at the application’s command line. Then I tried to stop the ping by typing control-C but nothing happened. To launch a subprocess, and when the user typed control-C, a byte with value 3 was written to th...

CTC ride to Lavenham. The ping that wouldn’t die. Emacs/Perforce integration: a retrospective. A look back at the first couple of years of maintaining the Emacs/Perforce integration. I’ve been maintaining the Perforce/Emacs integration. For a couple of years now, so it’s time for a retrospective. The first few months of work, described here. Were spent on three areas needing immediate attention:. Fixing bugs. You no longer lose unsaved changes. In a buffer when you run the. This has some big advantages: ...

The Quantum Thief

http://garethrees.org/2015/04/29/rajaniemi

CTC ride to Braughing. Jean le Flambeur, gentleman thief, is sprung from prison by the beautiful Mieli, who persuades him to undertake one last job. Author Hannu Rajaniemi works hard to obscure the familiar outline of this hoariest of heist plots, by layering on the worldbling with a trowel. The darkness rebuilds us. For a moment, I feel like I’m being sketched by a pen, feeling returning to my flesh and skin and limbs, one by one. And then I can see again. Presumably the idea is that all this is so natu...

Dynamic Programming - cesarvargas.org

Just some rand0m stuff. January 15, 2015. Today I stumbled across a very interesting article from Gareth Rees. In which he suggests that what we call Dynamic Programming. To describe a technique used when writing combinatorial algorithms, should be called the Tabular Method. I read that and started wondering:. What the hell is dynamic programming anyway? So, I kept reading and found a very well written explanation in the same article, with great examples! And stuff like that are used. So,. Call f(4) Call...

Created 24 May 2009, last updated 19 September 2010. Coverage.py is a tool for measuring code coverage of Python programs. It monitors your program, noting which parts of the code have been executed, then analyzes the source to identify code that could have been executed but was not. Coverage measurement is typically used to gauge the effectiveness of tests. It can show which parts of your code are being exercised by tests, and which are not. Getting started is easy:. To report on the results:. Some test...

Saturday, September 13, 2008. Hogs Hollow Route 1. So thi is my first attempt at actually creating a .gpx file for GPS units.  This is about a 6.2 mile loop at Hogs Hollow.  Keep in mind it was drawn on a map and transferred to my GPS unit, so hopefully everything matches up correctly or at least very close to the actual trail. If you want the .gpx file to try, download it from my other site. NOTE: WHEN YOU DOWNLOAD THESE FILES THE COMPUTER ADDS AN EXTENSION.  DELETE THE EXTENSION AND LEAVE IT AS.
