Shiny Things: immigration
http://amberinprogress.blogspot.com/2009/08/immigration.html
Friday, August 7, 2009. It's always easier to feel passionate about something when it directly affects you or someone you care about. The harshness of the immigration system is much clearer when you know the people whose lives are being disrupted and destroyed by it. When you hear abstract talk of immigration reform, remember that these are real people whose fates are being discussed, and we need to do something so that the human rights and dignity of every person are respected. Shiny Things: July 2009
http://amberinprogress.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 30, 2009. The year is ending. Yesterday was my last day of work! Today we're going off to our end of the year retreat (called Dis-Orientation). I'm in Houston until Tuesday, when I fly home. I'll be in Berkeley till Saturday the 8th, when I drive down to Aptos (near Santa Cruz) for my orientation. After that I'll be moving into my new home in Santa Clara and starting my work at Catholic Charities. A reading from Paul's letter to the Ephesians:. Spending 40-plus hours a week working with or...

Sunday, May 10, 2009. A Word that Means the World to Me. This year for Mother's Day I participated in Code Pink's. A Radical Act of Knitting in Honor of Mother's Day. Was asking for knitters and crocheters everywhere to contribute squares knit in pink and green to help create a "cozy" for the fence in front of the White House. Green letters on a pink background would spell out the phrase. Who wrote Mother's Day Proclamation. I knit a 4" x 4" square for my two kids and all the Moms in my life. Then the re...

A New Thread....: Throwing Caution To The Wind

Sunday, July 12, 2009. Throwing Caution To The Wind. The other day we went on a bike ride. I bought a bike a while ago because it was pretty. Apparently, according to my sources, you shouldn't buy a bike because it's pretty. Just because it seems all comfy and upright doesn't mean it is comfy, and upright isn't necessarily the best position to ride (isn't any of this stuff written down somewhere? The week before, I felt up for the challenge. I am a walking billboard of a cautionary tale. Surrounding me&#...

A New Thread....: March 2009

Tuesday, March 17, 2009. I'll Take "What is Green" for $100.00, Alex. Green Produce bags made out of tulle. It seemed odd to me to lug all my canvas bags into the grocery store only to fill up plastic bags with produce, so I made these bags from netting bought at the fabric store. I've gained enormous street cred with the cashiers at Whole Foods, and that is one group that is not easily impressed, I'll tell you what. I'm hoping to put up a tutorial on this soon, so stay tuned! Damn you cursed moss stitch.

A New Thread....: December 2010
http://anewthread.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 31, 2010. Although I stand here up to my elbows in Christmas cookie dough, I am fiercely determined to get this post out before the end of 2010. I long for the day when I actually have a moment to think about anything, anything. Other than boxes of one sort or another, but until that day comes I will have to resign myself to the moments between the timer alerting me to the relative doneness of the cookies in the oven, the laundry in the washer and the packages still waiting to be wrapped.

Shiny Things: And time passes...
http://amberinprogress.blogspot.com/2011/03/and-time-passes.html
Saturday, March 26, 2011. So apparently this blog thing still exists. Funny how the internet is sometimes. A year seems like a long enough pause, so I thought I'd write again. Hello world. Brief life update: I now have a paying job, an apartment, a TV, and a car. Yuck. What happened? Do people even read blogs anymore? This should probably be useful or informative or inspirational so as not to clog the internet tubes with unnecessary waste. March 26, 2011 at 10:05 PM. May 11, 2011 at 1:20 PM.
