I admire how crows and other city birds, (along with animals like raccoons, coyotes, possums etc) are able to live so successfully in our paved, grey, seemingly-barren cities. But I wonder, do they look around them and recognize the dullness of billboard advertisements, freeway interchanges and corrugated iron? Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Carnival Mask Traditions in the Netherlands. I have been looking for clues about old Dutch carnival and mumming traditions. Previously, I had found mask information and mask pictures for every European country except the Netherlands! Since I refused to believe they were the only European country without such a past, I decided to contact the wonderful folklorist and author GardenStone. And the images can be seen on pages 73-78.
