The End of Puppy Mills, The End of Pet Stores Selling Puppies. The Puppy Mill Problem. The Pet Store Problem. Breeder Advisory Board Application. The Puppy Mill Problem. It wasn’t that long ago, that if a family wanted to adopt a dog, the first place they’d look would be local shelter. Purebred dogs were for rich folks. Lower and middle income families were happy to have a good looking mutt from the ASPCA or other local shelter. But that’s changed. How did this change in our societal behavior happen?

Deb's Dog Blog: December 2011
http://debsdogblog.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, December 31, 2011. Looking back and looking forward. Ahhh, a quiet New Year's Eve. Just my style. I like this break between mid-December and the first of the year. It allows me to reflect on last year, check my goals and see what we can do in 2012. I think it was on the drive home, that I really was ready for the VST/CT journey to be done. I knew my dog could do it, but it was HARD! She also has 4 MXJ legs and 38 MACH points. It's a start, and I'm thrilled for her. Page and I had a growing/trai...

Deb's Dog Blog: January 2011

Wednesday, January 26, 2011. Evolution of a training program. I have a whole list of posts I want to make, but time has gotten away from me. They will come. But I took 10 minutes to eat lunch and decided to jump on Susan Garrett's blog. For some lunch-time reading. Today's post, "Is good Dog Training Static or Dynamic? Hit home for me, especially following a weekend agility seminar with Jenn Crank. But I think what I enjoyed most was Jenn's transparency on her own dynamic training program. She talked...

Thursday, September 25, 2014. Goals in the ring. Ahhh, blogging. Where have you gone? Away with my time on other things that seem unimportant now. Now I have time to blog again … maybe. Let’s see how this goes. There are several goals we’re chasing right now. Dare I say them? I know the answer. Interestingly, Tori Self. Said something similar in her blog post this week. This is how she described her runs with Rev last weekend: One thing I thought would not be helpful was babysitting. So I didn’...I curre...

Deb's Dog Blog: It's New Year's Eve: 2013 Goals
http://debsdogblog.blogspot.com/2012/12/its-new-years-eve-2013-goals.html
Monday, December 31, 2012. It's New Year's Eve: 2013 Goals. Wow, I don't get to blog very much any more. I think about lots of things I'd like to blog about . it's time I don't have. Maybe I'll be better about it in 2013. So those pesky goals for 2013. I've been thinking about them for several weeks. I like how Kathy Keats posed her questions in the conclusion of the Agility Mind Gym series in Clean Run's December 2012 issue, so I'll use those questions to frame my goals this year. In my training, I need...

Deb's Dog Blog: Lessons from hosting a Super Bowl
http://debsdogblog.blogspot.com/2012/02/lessons-from-hosting-super-bowl.html
Saturday, February 11, 2012. Lessons from hosting a Super Bowl. Indianapolis hosted this year's Super Bowl, and it was a huge success. I can't imagine what it would take to put on a Super Bowl. I heard Allison Melangton, President and CEO of the 2012 Super Bowl Host Committee, speak once more than a year ago, and I liked what she had to say. I also enjoyed reading this article and listening to the video clips from the IBJ. I found three of her lessons learned inspiring:. Amy / Layla the Malamute. MACH Mo...

Deb's Dog Blog: April 2012

Tuesday, April 10, 2012. Sad news about Connor. On Thursday we found out Connor has very advanced stage lymphoma. He's been living with my parents since the first of March because it. Had become difficult for him to manage the stairs at my house. Two weeks ago it became apparent something else was going on, and we had him examined and blood draw last Tuesday. Today we met with Dr. Catherine Florence at Indiana Veterinary Alternatives. Connor liked the acupuncture, and we could see immediate help with his...

Deb's Dog Blog: 2011 Flashback: Devon's AX
http://debsdogblog.blogspot.com/2012/01/2011-flashback-devons-ax.html
Sunday, January 8, 2012. 2011 Flashback: Devon's AX. But Devon did come with a fear of movement and she’s very environmentally aware, so lack of confidence in her foundation along with those issues have caused training and confidence problems. And in Oct 2009, after earning her OA, Devon got spooked on the teeter in training and wouldn’t get back on it. It took her nearly 6 months to even start back with a board and a 1-inch dowel. The one thing I have learned with Devon is it truly is a pleasure to step...

Deb's Dog Blog: March 2012
http://debsdogblog.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 9, 2012. How you play the "game". This article by Rick Reilly on Peyton Manning. As a player, Reilly notes that Manning watched more film and knew more about most defenses than the guys in them. He was the last one to go home at night and played bruised and sick even though his paycheck didn't change if he played or not. And the biggest story I didn't know:. So what can I apply from this article? My attitude is noticed. Being a good sport counts for something - it counts for a lot! CT Gayla...
